Paynter was the Colts QB when they almost beat us last year. I thought he did pretty good for hardly ever getting snaps in practice until Peyton got injured. If one of his passes isn't one foot off, he adds a 80 yard TD pass in the last two minutes of the game to take the lead. Ike was out of position

Painter has always been a bit of a mystery to me. He came out of college with talent - never superstar material, but solid enough to be an NFL back up - and he was working with one of the best QBs to ever play the game. So when Manning goes down, he's all set for a Rodgers-esque move forward. But he didn't. And frankly, however well he may have played against us, he was awful for the most part last year. Ok, he was never going to actually be an Aaron Rodgers, but all I'm saying is I'm surprised at how bad he was, given the setting he was in.

Anyways, I'd rate him as more accurate than DD, who has probably relied on mobility too much as his selling point. Baltimore have a habit of trying out our scarmbing rejects, don't they? Didn't they sign Kordell a few years back?

Dixon is another college qb that played in a spread offense. that doesn't translate to the pro's. Very few qb's that play in that system can make it. he is a decent backup but will never be a good starter. I mean he couldn't even beat out charlie batch.

So, let me get this straight.... We kept a worthless hump on the roster for 4 years who couldn't even beat out Curtis freaking painter for a backup gig behind Joe Flunco? Painter has a whopping 60.6 lifetime QB rating with 6 TD's to 11 INT's. The dude is absolutely horrible and so is Dixon. Why someone would sign either of these guys is a mystery. And why some guys here believe that DD was a good BU is even more of a mystery....

    Sorry... been a long week.

I think I'll head over to the Colts MB and start a FBAI thread just for nostalgia's sake.

I'll sit this one out. I feel bad enough for 'em as it is, and this would be like adding insult to injury. They'll be bickering over how their problems are or aren't BAs fault on their own in no time. :)

LMAO at where this thread went!
And I`m not skurd of Craven`s fans, but I will stick to this board...
Anyhow, I could understand why we drafted Dixon...
If it wasn`t for his knee injury right before the draft, he probably would have went higher, and we wouldn`t have even had the chance, to take a chance on him...
It was a gamble. Plain and simple.
It didn`t work out, But I can see why they rolled the dice.
Not sure why he stuck around so long, unless we just couldn`t find anyone better, or he showed more in practice, than the games I saw him in...

There is a simple reason Denis Dixon didn't beat out Curtis Painter....... He's not as good as Curtis Painter.

Not that Painter is any great QB, but what on God's Green Earth has anyone around here seen the last 4 yrs to make them think that Dixon is more than an aspiring journeyman?

Painter is younger, has more experience. The Ravs choosing Painter over Dixon is not the shock of the century.

Ironically, it now appears that the Colts, Curtis Painter's old team, is interested in Dixon.

You can have him, Brucie baby!

Was not a very good p/u @ the time and w/ hindsight, just as bad.

We need a legit backup to groom. Problem is, they're rare. If you're decent at all teams scoop you up. In the meantime Charlie can just barely hold down the fort whilst we look.

I'm thinking Charlie can't even hold down lunch. Why do you think we had a hobbled and busted up Rottenbooger on the field for the second half who could barely move? Because after Ben we don't have jack squat. How bad are you if a one legged man gets on the field before you? We need a credible BU in here because Ben will get hurt at some point to where he won't be able to drag his broken up body on to field. Dude isn't getting any younger and he isn't exactly a gym rat. Im tired of seeing worthless, decrepit, and fragile on the sidelines behind Ben. DD was supposed to be some incredible athlete but I never saw it. CB is older than dirt and more fragile than grannys china, and Leftovers is slow and fragile with a wind up that starts in the parking lot.

That's some great insight there, Knox. As usual, very entertaining and on the money and I agree with what you're saying. I like Batch, but he was really supposed to be gone 3 years ago. As for Leftwich, that comment about his wind up starting in the parking lot was spot on. And Dennis Dixon, well, let's just say that he had his opportunity when Ben was suspended for his stupidity in 2010 and blew it.

If I get my wish in this upcoming draft, we're going to draft not only a capable backup but our QB of the future in Kirk Cousins of Michigan State. If he falls to the 3rd round, we need to snatch him. I'm pimping him big time!
