is it just me or could we use some DB help? i know lewis played ok last year in a limited role, but is he our plan as a #2? we didn't tender him as a can't lose guy. did cortez allen and brown show enough to be that guy? ike is aging quickly before our eyes and who will be his replacement or backup? mundy is ok, but gets us in trouble from time to time. clark is slowing down and so is troy. we are not young back there by any means. will allen , i'm not sure why he's even still here. we got rid of two cb's. i don't see how we can't draft a couple of db's fairly early.

The expectation is that Lewis, Brown, and Allen will continue to improve and will by our #2-#4 CBs in some order to be determined during training camp.

But i wouldn't be surprised to see a S drafted for depth or as a future replacement

You can never have to many Cb's.

Mac I have been thinking this same thing, however, I have been thinking it for several years. Apparently, I have lost some clout with the front office because they don't seem to listen to me anymore. It would be nice to grab a "can't miss" guy to inject into a starting role. Is there a guy that fits the bill anywhere close to where we are picking in the first two rounds? I have been so hooked on Hightower that I have neglected to look at anyone else, as of late. Would we even go that route? I still think this team believes that if we can pressure up front we can have anyone defending receivers and I'm afraid that formula has run its course in this league.

we will need more than 4 cb's. robinson looks like the top dog where we would pick in the 1st. unless gilmore slides some. not sure we would touch jenkins. hosely from VT is another most likely early in the 2nd though. boykin could be there in the 2nd. i know they like tandy but he would be late in the draft.

I don't think Lewis played as well as people are giving him credit for last year.

It's possible he'll improve, but I think some may be disappointed in him. I'm hopeful one or both of the young guys will beat him out. More likely Allen, since he's logged game experience. But Brown did look exceptional on special teams.

I thought last year I seen C Allen as the nickel guy and Brown at corner, or am I remembering wrong? Depth will be needed.

Imo allen will make the better outside guy. He is bigger and stronger then brown i believe he is faster as well but brown has the better ball skills

he had some kind of injury he was playing with i thought. he showed a few good coverages and some not so good ones.

i think allen is going to be ike's eventual replacement before it's over. the next #1 guy when ike's had it. mc fadden from auburn we signed in the offseason was a decent player in college. maybe he can work as a backup. we do still have cromartie-smith who i thought was looking the part in preseason. this year he may see the field and overtake maybe will allen. i hope. i wonder if they would look at tony dye from UCLA as a late or udfa safety? the last really good year he had was when carnell was his coach. hmmmm. that was his soph. year. when carnell left the kids game didn't evolve anymore. maybe a hookup with his old coach could be the ticket? as you are not yet a finished product. when you can snatch the pebble from my hand grasshopper.

I dont know that smith is listed as a cb i thought he was a safety i could be wrong. We have a lot of youth back there and guys we frankly just domt know about. Im leaving lewis out of this but here we go.
Brown and allen yes they looked good last year but remember after gays rookie year everybody thought he was going to be special so who knows. Now the real unkowns we have rolle incredibly smart kid and if he has the talent to play he would make a great field general. Mcfadden was good at auburn but hasnt produced in the nfl i think he may have gotten hurt at one point though the last name scares me lol c. Smith is a hard nose player that doesnt seem to have any quit in him but he has basically spent two years on our practice squad so anything past the a special teams player may be a stretch. I know im forgetting some people but the spammers unkown is scary but the unkown isn't always bad. Hopefully these kids show up and go balls out next year. My favorite of tge group is rolle because hes smart but come on the we have a rolle and a cromartie in the bunch so we should be good lol.

cromartie-smith is a safety, thats why i said he may beat out will allen. he did play cb and safety in college so he has some idea of the position. he was activated to the 53 last year. he wasen't on the PS all year. rolle, i don't know. if he proves fast enough. he's not played much in a long time. ike is the only older vet. it will be a youth movement that's for sure.

Its time for Curtis Brown to step up,get ready to take
over 1 cb spot and for Cortez Allen to get there also. I am not a big
Keenan Lewis fan. We will have to draft a CB but I am not sure what round,
we have more pressing needs at the moment lik a OG and NT.

I'd still like to see that "can't miss" guy drafted, however, I want to see that at every position, every year so I'm not sure it is fair of me to respond. I do like the potential of some of the guys we have but I think CB has been a position where we have thrown players at the wall and hoped a couple would stick. Aside from Pouncey, I believe we have had the same approach to the O-line. It is one of those positions where I would like to see us go after someone top tier in the draft. That is just my opinion, though!

I believe we saw a shift away from that philosophy last season. I think they concentrated much more on coverage last year. We didn't seem to get much pressure at all last year on QB's. I know alot of that had to do with JH and Woodley being hurt but it still seemed we focused more on coverage last season. I think Lake has this secondary headed in the right direction, still wouldn't mind seeing another CB picked this draft though.

being that young at DB, we will see some mistakes made, i'm sure. if they learn and at least make some splash plays during the year we should be alright. it's not going to be perfect all the time and i hope people realize that.

I hope your right about the shift in philosophy and I do believe Lake is the right coach to take us in the right direction. I guess I was attributing the lack of pressure to injuries. I do believe in pressuring up front but I, also, believe in having good coverage...I just want it all.
