Gilbert signed a 6 yr extension worth $30mil 3 yrs ago and Villanueva signed a 4 yr extension worth $24mil this year. in terms of per year, Villanueva is a better deal with $6mil/yr vs gilberts $5mil/yr. If i were gilbert, I would not be happy with the situation. Gilbert is a proven tackle with a pretty good pedigree out of UF where Villanueva is an unproven tackle who started playing this position only several years ago. I realize that Gilbert signed his deal over 3 years ago, but I think Villanueva got too much or Gilbert got too little. But Gilbert has been a true pro as he has not complained about his deal. I would think Gilbert is worth $8mil/yr if AV is $6mil/yr. And Gilbert is outperforming AV currently. actually, more I think about it, AV is overpaid. he should be more with Ramon Foster is making at about $3mil/yr.

I don't agree I think AV is worth every penny.

    Agreed.

He is older for essentially a third year starter at left tackle but has done better since the start of the season. Granted, yesterday was horrible by him but the entire "Munch Bunch" got "Munched 'n' Crunched".

This line is not blocking the way they should. They are all relatively young, except for maybe Foster ... I'm curious if someone is hurt, but not letting on, resulting in poor performance.

What's the point of signing multi year deals anymore? Someone always crying about wanting more. They should just sign 1 year deals but no, they aren't doing that.

Gilbert is easily the better player. But the markets change in pro spots quickly. There's a better market at LT because he protects Ben's blindside, but Gilbert is one of the top RT's in the game. I wouldn't be mad because he got paid market value when he signed... he just has to try to stay healthy and keep balling so his next contract is big too.

    This.

Pro players are aware of all of this. I doubt Gilbert looks at AV when he considers his contract, he'll look at other RTs.

AV is well below market value. gilbert struggled for his first several years. gilbert has also missed a lot of starts over his years. he should shut up, get on the field and help his team win. we took a chance signing him to what we did then and he should get better as he plays. thats just earning the contract that he signed 3 years ago.

Gilbert is the most underrated Olineman in the league. Dude has turned into a stud. Him being out is one of the reasons we are struggling up front. When Gilbert is in no help is needed on the right side and it seems we are keeping TE in to block with him out. Hopefully he returns this week.

AV has had a bad year compared to last year... granted they were giving him ALOT of help last year with RB's and TE's chipping.

Gilbert practiced fully for the second straight day today, so it definitely appears that he'll be back on the field Sunday. Which is obviously a good thing, as he's far superior to Hubbard.

Hubbard has been a mess the past few weeks. I've liked what he brought off the bench in the past, but the last few weeks he has been a prominent reason for our offensive struggles.
