Hugh Hefner died today of natural causes.

I used to enjoy the thought provoking articles in his magazine as a teenager.

Yeah. I too used to sneak into my dad's stash as a coming of age lad to read those interesting articles...

I don't know what to say about the man. He'll doubtlessly be a divisive character among many here. I doubt we'll see anyone like him again.

Fitting, I suppose, that he died at the same time print is dying.

This richman clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously everyday.

I, too, remember sneaking around with my brother to find my dad's copy of Playboy. we couldn't wait to look at those HUGE.........................tracts of land! I often wondered if dad was hiding those magazines from us, or from mom?! RIP

Yes, thought provoking articles indeed. As a teenager in the early 80's, I found my stepdad's Playboy stash, and I immediately took up the habit of reading them cover to cover - for the articles of course. I actually seriously did read a lot of the articles in addition to admiring the photography. Some were actually very interesting growing teenager. I recall they always had great articles on their All American college football team - better than SI at the time.

Hugh was so much more than Playboy. He pushed for equal rights for many discriminated groups in an era when discrimination was openly accepted.

A great quote by a great man

"If you don't encourage healthy sexual expression in public, you get unhealthy sexual expression in private. If you attempt to suppress sex in books, magazines, movies and even everyday conversation, you aren't helping to make sex more private, just more hidden. You're keeping sex in the dark. What we've tried to do is turn on the lights,"

"I had a lot of girlfriends, but it's not the same as cheating. I don't cheat. I am very open about what I do. ... I think that when you are in a relationship, you should be honest. The real immorality of infidelity is the lying."
