I don't think anyone thinks Batch is going to be a probowler next year. It will be interesting to see if he can offer more than Mewelde Moore though.

As far as Redman: I was never on his bandwagon, but you can't deny he has shown something. He impressed me in the Denver game. If this was Cowher ball I think he could be a starter here, but sadly it is not.

In my defense, in our mock draft, I did try to get the Steelers to draft a RB in the 4th.

I think 3rd or 4th would be a good round for a RB. I wouldn't mind 2nd though if one of the better guys fell to our spot, like Lamar Miller, David Wilson, or my personal favorite Doug Martin.

It's just funny to me there's certain guys that always seem to be pimped all over the boards for no real reason. Crezdon Butler was the one I never understood. Everyone talked about him starting just because he "supposedly" impressed in training camp.

I believe Redman is a very good running back... But still somehow overrated.

Remember, there have also been a lot of players called a "bust" on here that were not yet given a chance. Either way it's all personal opinions, the same as the article. Players are drafted every year on the hope they can help the team and be a special player in the NFL; not because of their NFL experience or accomplishments.
It's easy to say they have not proved they can be a star yet, but they have also not been proven to be a bust.

Sorry, couldn't finish reading it either, read like a bunch of negative load of crap. Didn't get me down at all, I already know Redman is good and still believe Batch has something to offer.

"Steeler Nation expects her high-round draft picks to produce, and gets fairly testy if they don’t do so in what she considers to be a timely fashion."

Her? HER? She? Wtf? Talk about pussification.

SteelByDesign, I always appreciate a good link, thanks for trying. Unfortunately, after about a third of the way through the article I gave up. That was a lot of words about nothing. I'm curious as to who the people are who should read it? :)

none of this matters. the proof will be on the field just like every other player, whether they are a 1st rounder or an udfa. until the war starts noone knows how it will end. we used to have 16 rounds in the draft, so batch would have been in the top half. players are coming out of college alot more " play" ready. as you know some schools and players get more coverage from "the experts" then others. alot of the reason players move up and down the boards that were not at the combine. i don't need some women writer to tell me how good or bad a player will be. i've got eyes.

i kind of liken her to baron batch. she was not drafted to the top media centers out of college. she was a late round pick and is trying to make the team and maybe, just maybe more. i'll take it with a grain of salt. i don't disagree with what she says either. heck i've said that in the past about batch. he has done nothing on an nfl field. he did however do some good things in college. if he can help the steelers win so beit. if not, again so be it.

Okay, I just tried reading the article too, and didn't bother to finish. I skimmed around a little. It's pointless. He lost me almost right away, by seemingly making fun of Steeler fans for wanting/saying they want Troy to stay healthy for a year, Ben to mature a little, Wallace to get 2000 yards... Steeler fans are wrong about all kinds of stuff, but why pick on them for being hopeful?

It's not unrealistic to assume Redman will be a capable starter and Batch will take over for Moore and be the 3rd down/change of pace back. If Redman starts 6 games before Mendenhall's return, I could easily see him with 6 TDs at that point. I'd go so far as to say Redman and Batch's success might even be a probability (although Batch still has the injury to work through). Yes, some fans are definitely hyping them up too high, but so what? That's what fans are for.

Steeler fans have seen this happen in the past, so looking at a UDFA or a 7th round pick and thinking they could be a star isn't impossible for them. Willie Parker and James Harrison should come to mind.

Redman showed promise in his first training camp....he delivered in the playoffs with his opportunity to start.

Batch showed promise in preseason. Dwyer shows promise as does Clay. They may not all be studs in the #1 running back mode, but I think the trend is to move to more of a RB by committee approach. NE and Denver both use it with success.

The key to me here is as follows...find the correct role for a guy and put him in it.

Well I guess we could take this article as a back handed compliment of sorts. I mean I can definitely take it as a compliment that Steeler Nation is perceived as a group of people that generally believe in their players. A group that generally roots for their players. A group that doesn't think we need high profile guys to win consistently. A group that consistently expects excellence from those who consistently display it. A group that does have high hopes but is also realistic when we see that "hope" will never manifest itself into reality. I'm with the rest of you guys. I read over half the article and just couldn't stay with it. But Steel By Design is still a GREAT Steeler fan and I don't begrudge him for posting it.

I didn't finish reading that. The team should be fine with Redman running.

Redman is very solid,he plays above the line in all 3 phases....The tape does not lie...He can block he can run and he can catch,,,I contend he is as well rounded a RB as any in the NFL....Granted he might not be very fast, but he has enough power and wiggle to make up for top end speed....I expect him to be faster this season and I expect him to have a great year...

As for Batch he looks like a great find as well so we will see...

I have no problems seeing him as a very solid back.

The saviour to all of our problems, less so. But I'm keeping an open mind on it.

The RB battle at camp is still going to be very interesting.

Some people just don't get it....even some of steelernation. The steelers FO know what they are doing ...proven track record.Colbert and Tomlin know what they have...proven track record. We have enough fire power at the rb position. Now if there is talent in the late rd that we can get then we will go after but this position is not a priority.Just like they didnt pick up a qb when ben got four game suspension..We don't panick!!

The RB position is changing. The days of the "franchise RB" are coming to an end. Teams are starting to look deeper in the draft for RBs and taking several of them as opposed to wanting the single, star RB. Adrian Peterson, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Chris Johnson are the last of a dying breed. Look at what the Giants have accomplished with a RB by committee approach. Same with the Pats. Many GMs now view RBs as 4-5 year players who'll be let go and replaced as soon as their rookie contract is up.
