I don't seem him getting a lot of attention but I was wondering everyone's opinion on him. Me personally, I really like the depth at that position now, he isn't flashy but he does have a quick step and seems to have a nose for the ball. I like Moats because he seems to be a decent backup that can play inside and outside and do so at a good level but all I've seen from Chickillo the last 2 seasons is continued improvement, at least it looks like it when I watch all his snaps, which in all honesty isn't a lot but he does seem to make the most of his opportunities. Anyway, I just wanted to get other opinions as perhaps I'm seeing into it a bit much so having different perspectives is good. After watching the recorded Vikings game my buddy gave me I feel a little better about the defense that what I have the last 4 years, they look to be making progress, I'm still pretty down on Davis but I too am now holding out hope he will get better, I'm trying to be a glass half full now, but all that aside I'm thinking Chikillo could start on another roster in the NFL and be a quality backup on just about any team, hopefully we can keep him or at least have a good trade option should a better safety become available.

From where Chick was at in college, position wise and playing weight, he has progressed by leaps and bounds year to year. He could definitely be a starter imo. Indy, New Orleans, NYJ to name a few.

I swear Barber said Chick played NT in Miami...I thought he played DE, not DT.

Yes, I heard that too. He definitely didn't play NT, but DE.

Personally I still do not think he has peaked yet. He may still be scratching on the surface yet.

Keep in mind it took him all of his rookie season just to not only get in shape but relearn his natural position. Last season was essentially his rookie year playing as an edge rusher.

This year would be year two for him playing his natural spot. However, due to his desire to get better in addition to having some quality traits, Anthony's overall resume screams future starter. By the end of the season, should anything happen to either Dupree or Watt, Chickillo will be far better than he is now.

Hard to get this straight but Chickillo reminds me of Lambert. Still a lot to prove though. I know this is a very bold statement.

OK take that back! He has been very good, maybe he brings up memories of Lambert, but Jack stands alone and far above in all aspects!!!! Not knocking him or you, just saying Lambert might still knock him on his ass!

He actually played a fair number of snaps inside, and I recall him saying that Canes' coaches had him bulk up specifically to play inside. I took a quick peek at one of his 2014 games, and he lined up inside several times - even in the 1 gap a few times. He was still primarily used at DE though.

Through no fault of his own, Chickillo always reminds me of when his girlfriend tweeted a bit prematurely that he got signed by the team, and then they released him.

He was re-signed and it all worked out fine, but I still always remember it. Think before you tweet, kids.

Steelers have been good over the years at drafting and developing OLBs. Jarvis Jones and Alonzo Jackson are exceptions. Even overlooked OLBs like Haggans and Worilds made positive contributions to the 3-4.

    Regarding the Cornerback position....

Chickillo played DT on 3rd downs at Miami in his senior season. They had 2 young freshman/sophmore guys they wanted to get on the edge (Al Quadin Muhammad and Tyriq McCord). This led to Chickillo's infamous drop in sack production as a senior, and worked out great for us.

I knew when I made that statement that I would get a bunch of flack for it but Chikillo, like Lambert is a very undersized LBer who really hits opposing players with a lot of force. Not saying he's the next Lambert but there are some similarities.

The undersized description fits for both, but the tasks and responsibilities are totally different. Lambert was a MLB in a 4-3. Chickillo is OLB in 3-4. Apples and Oranges.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you, but I think some of it comes from draft position. Steelers are typically drafting later. Teams value CBs higher than OLBs. Therefore, by our turn, the one of the top OLB may be sitting there while the CBs are picked over.

Are we better taking the 2nd best OLB or 8th best CB? IDK.

There was a thread not to long ago with some pretty good discussion on Chick, Watt and Dupree. I like the depth we have now and also the quality of these guys not to mention "old man" 92! I read an article about Chick being a top prospect coming out of high school. When he went to Miami he couldn't fit the 4-3 scheme and his play took a hit. I do believe it was during the east-west shrine game after he went off in that game. I will have to search for it cause it was a good read.

Ok found it quicker than I thought, I had it backwards he played in a 3-4 and shined in a 4-3 at the shrine game. Great read here:

Chickillo is a good depth player, not his fault that bud is better, and watt is just a stud right now
