I think we will draft a WR in this draft the question is in what round..The comments that Tomlin made about being worried about Sanders staying healthy plus the statements that Wallace has possibly made about money and then you add Brown to the mix as a RFA next year then there is no way we don't draft a WR in this draft...

This is not a draft only thread it's a look at what we could look like at the position next year...What if Wallace does stay then we will have to tag him next year IMO....What if Tomlin's fears come true and Sanders can't stay healthy? What if we decide to put a tender on Brown and other Teams scoop him up?I do believe this is highly likely as some Teams have already stated they like Brown over Wallace...I feel the same way...

I still think someone has a offer sheet for Wallace,IMO they are waiting because it makes sense to do so...There still might be a couple of Teams with offers,Wallace may not take them ,but I see no reason that a Team wouldn't at least make one if they wanted him.....So logically the 49rs. will IMO as well as the Bengals and probably Denver..

So the point of my thread is the strong WR position could become weak in a hurry within 2 seasons or less....So what type of WR do you feel we need moving forward? And what type of WR do you feel Haley would be looking for? What type of WR would help us the most in the Redzone and in short to medium passes?

I have my guy ..lol...Just wanted to get other peeps take on the situation.....

Tommy Streeter- with the speed he has and 6-5, 219 being able to take him in the 3, 4, 5 range depending on what you do rounds 1-2 I think it could be a possibility. He is a large target with great speed. The fastest guy at the combine last year VanDyke from the U now with Oak said he could put up numbers like his. I think he would be a great addition to the core and would allow us to let Wallace go next year and still keep Brown. Streeter would be able to take the top off like Mike and open up underneath for Brown. I think he can be a 6-5 Wallace in is first year or 2 then could very well develop into a great WR.

I think they draft a TE to compete with Saunders before they focus on drafting a WR.

Yes he has potential, but Saunders has really proven nothing yet when you think about it. He had some read flags on him coming out and Steelers took a chance on him...his 4 game suspension is not helping his case that he has what it takes.

Also I think they said the draft was deep on WR and CB so they must think they could find another Antonio Brown in the 7th round.

Well, TY Hilton from Fla International is a pretty intriguing prospect that we have brought in. I have only seen highlights, so I can't say that I have seen the good and bad - only the good. However, the good is a big wow. The guy looks very similar to AB, Josh Cribbs and Devin Hester in the open field. Drew Boylhart from the Huddle Report gives him a first round grade talent-wise.

Ty Hilton is seen as a 3rd or 4th round prospect. It would be nice to have him, but we may be looking at a choice between him and a NT or him and a Safety. Think it would be great to have that nasty return threat, and another wide receiver, but we only have so many high draft picks.
If you don't know much about him, here's a quick write up (I know some of you hate Walter, but he does OK by me):

Hilton sat out the Combine with a quadriceps injury he suffered in his Bowl game. At Hilton's pro day, all 32 teams were in attendance and, reportedly, he performed well. Speedy and agile, Hilton put together a strong senior season. His straight-line speed is a mismatch for defenses and special teams units. Hilton was on fire against Louisville. He caught seven passes for 201 yards with two touchdowns. One of those scores was an 83-yard touchdown strike.

For the season, Hilton had 72 receptions for 1,038 yards and seven touchdowns. Also, he returned 18 kicks for 548 yards this season with eight punts returned for 186 yards and a touchdown. Hilton put together a season to show that he should be a second-day pick in the draft.

8/19/11: T.Y. Hilton plays at a smaller program, but he has been a playmaker. Last year, Hilton hauled in 59 receptions for 848 yards and five touchdowns. he has been a dangerous weapon on kickoff returns. In his career, Hilton has four kick return touchdowns and has averaged 27 yards per return. In 2009, he caught 57 passes for 632 yards with five scores. Hilton will need to run well at the combine as the new kickoff changes in the NFL definitely have hurt his draft value.

Receivers over 6' for rounds 5-7 (I chose that height because I want someone different than what we have: 5' 10", good route runners, great hands):
    Gerell Robinson, Ariz State- 6' 3", 225, 4.62
    Brian Quick, Appalachian State- 6' 4", 220, 4.55
    B.J. Cunningham, Mich State- 6' 1", 211, 4.59
    Jarrett Boykin, Vir Tech- 6' 2", 217, 4.74
    Derek Moye, Penn State- 6' 4", 209. 4.52
    Jermaine Kearse, Washington- 6' 1", 209, 4.58
    Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M- 6' 4", 223, 4.60
    Chris Owasu, Stanford- 6', 196, 4.36
    Greg Childs, Arkansas- 6' 3", 219, 4.39
    DeVier Posey, Ohio State- 6' 2", 211, 4.50
    Lawrence Lewis, East Carolina- 6' 3", 200, 4.54
DeMarlo Belcher, Indiana- 6' 5", 214, 4.44 (Belcher may not be drafted. He had good years as a fresh/soph, and then was kicked off his team last year for unspecified reasons after the 6th game)
