Tomlin had a press conference today for the first time since the playoff loss to Denver and answered a bunch of questions. Here's some things of interest...

    • Said that Rooney controls the team and can do what he wants, but he did not force or tell him to fire Bruce Arians. Tomlin then said "I hired Todd Haley as well... which is your next question" (I love his attitude lol)

    • Said he likes what the team has at RB behind Mendenhall but expects them to pick up a RB in either free agency or the draft

    • Haley new playbook has new nomenclature, and they are open to using a FB in the offense but that would be determined by who they were able to acquire (I'd say we can get one with one of our four 7th rounders). Said not to expect a complete overhaul in blocking scheme though.

    • Said they want to acquire a "young QB in some fashion, but it won't be someone they're grooming to be a future starter" So that can put to rest some of you crazies talking about a QB in round 2 or 3

    • Says you can't really predict what will happen but that Emmanuel Sanders and Willie Colon are on a good track to recovery

    • OSU OT Mike Adams has visited the Steelers, so has WR Ty Hilton from Florida, and Cincy DE Derek Wolfe (Cincy grad here, love this guy)

    • He's not worried about Ben and Haley's relationship

    • Said he hasn't thought about another team trying to sign Mike Wallace, but they'll cross that bridge IF they come to it

    • Casey Hampton could open season on PUP, McClendon capable of starting and Ziggy also a possibility

    Thanks for the info.

Typical Tomlin ambiguities on all these three... I wonder if the first suggests we're waiting to see how Rashard heals before making a decision on his future?

I think that is a given considering past history with players (especially RBs) with ACL injuries.

If we wanted a RB out of free agency we could have one pretty cheap. There's several guys on the market still that could probably help us.

Cedric Benson, Brandon Jacobs, Kevin Smith, Ryan Grant, Tim Hightower, Ladanian Tomlinson and Ronnie Brown

If we take a QB before round 5 I will probably punch a hole through my brand new 60" flat screen.

All I can say, SBD, is that you better get an insurance policy in place on that sucker before the draft. If Cousins is there in round 3 I think there is a good chance we draft him and if by chance we pass on him in round 3 and he makes it to round 4, the chances that we draft him increase exponentially.

At the beginning of the year. I'd take him. He runs with intensity.

    Great link, Towel. Thanks!!
I always love to hear how many words Tomlin can use to either state the obvious, or say nothing... ;)
Regardless, he is fun to listen to.
I am glad to hear coach Kirby is "attacking his rehab", even though, those are not necessarily words I would use to describe a Coach. Glad to hear that he may be coming back soon... Third degree burns on half of one`s body, are nothing to sneeze at. Usually, that is close to life threatening.
Can`t blame Tomlin for sounding very enthused about our runningbacks, either...
I loved the qoute about Clay.. "... All he did was score a touchdown on his first carry. moving forward, he understands it won`t always be that easy..."
And "Redmann Proved he is a legitamite NFL starting runningback"... Yes!
I don`t remember all the rest, but basically, he put to rest a lot of the fears we have, as a fan base..
It`s been awhile, since he has talked to the press, and seemed to avoid mentioning all the free-agent/veteran losses, and focused on what we have here... "going forward"...
Wise choice, IMHO... `Cause we DO have a lot of talent to keep moving forward with, IMO...
    GO STEELERS!!!

i must admit that reading the word "fullback" (and not in context of 'steelers release fb') made my pants feel a bit tight ... :-D

any qb drafted will make me a little upset UNLESS we do something in FA along the ol, dl,ilb,rb lines. too many needs to waste a draft pick on a player that will only see time if ben goes down. and if ben goes down, it really doesnt matter who the #2 qb is, we will be screwed.

Love both of these quotes. "Attacking rehab"... do you think he writes these beforehand, or do they just come into his head as he speaks? Either way, I agree he's great to listen to.

I liked the quote on a FB as well....I think we will get a true FB this year..With Redman back there he adds to the value of that position...A North and South guy helps the lead blocker make blocks ,Redman's style and power mixed with his ability to make one good cut and go will make a true FB a devastating force...

As most LB'S are read and react type of guys and they try to scrape off of lead blocks a runner who comes down hill gives them less time to read and react and if the RB bounces off the block nicely to either side you will see a lot of LB'S trying to arm tackle Red after a solid lead block....It is simple Redman will destroy that type of tackle on a regular basis.....

As I have stated for years this will force extra guys in the box to clean up and secure the tackle,,this will open up the PA game and will allow our TE'S to do more damage in the passing game...I still think we need 1 Big WR with leaping ability who can snatch the ball from the air on those quick throws because of serious blitzes on PA.....

To me it is football 101 plow the middle and throw behind it, make the other Team fear to stay in coverage and make them fear to blitz....A FB and a big WR would do just that with the proper play calls....
