could he be traded? if they are not happy with the TE position and now have mcdonald. would it be worth considering? even if we kept grimble, mcgee, johnson. would he have some value on the trading block? how about teamed with a guy like moats? coates? this could be a nice little package deal for some team.
huguenin played pretty well this preseason and adams is going to be back next season. is moats needed really?

i'm not saying to do this but do you think these guys could be an option? :smiley1:

Would be shocked if James was worth a 6th round pick to anyone. Grumble is toast. By mid season at the latest McDonald will be the #1 te and James will be a back up as he should be.

I like having a trio of McDonald, James and DJ. It gives us a mix of TE styles to fit game situations. James is still cheap, so he's worth having even if he gets bumped down the depth chart.

Hope not, he's solid. Would rather have Vance and James than Vance and one of the other two.

I think McDonald's rise or fall will be completely tied to his chemistry with Ben and how comfortable Ben is with going to him. It's one of those things that none of us can predict. Ben had great chemistry with Cotchery but not with the guy from the Saints. Miller was his failsafe guy and he hasn't been replaced, James was starting to get there but he has had drops. So if Big Mac gets that chemistry with Ben then yeah Jesse becomes blocking TE with one or two targets every two games.

Chemistry definitely plays a part, but I'll have to disagree with you on the blocking part. James if average at best as a blocker while Johnson is very good. McDonald isn't as good as Johnson, but still better than James. My guess is it will be McDonald and Johnson as the straight blocking tandem.

I don't know why some people are enamored with DJ's blocking. I believe his skill set is based more on reputation that current play. He gets 15 snaps a game, never gets targeted in the passing game, and his presence in a formation telegraphs a running play.

Jesse just isn't a big time starting TE. He's just not a #1 TE. He would make a good #2 though. Personally, I think he has over achieved to this point.

I like Vance and the outlaw as a TE tandem.
