So the Steelers tend to let the "flurry" of FA signings go, and then put out feelers with what's rest, and it typically works out well. Our lack of cap space stinks, but I wonder how long they'll mess with Mike Wallace before realizing he's not going to sign a decent long term deal. There's still some really solid free agent's available that have hopefully been humbled by the lack of interest.

    OT, Marcus McNeil
    OT, Demetrius Bell
    LB, David Hawthorne
    LB, London Fletcher
    NT, Aubrayo Franklin
    OT, Kareem McKenzie
    DE, Luis Castillo
    RB, Kevin Smith
    WR, Braylon Edwards
    S, Jim Leonhard
    G, Chilo Rachal
    S, OJ Atogwe

Of the list, I'd be ecstatic with any of the top 3 there.

I'd also love Atogwe as our swingman backup, or even play 3 safeties in passing situations with Atogwe taking the safety spot, and having Troy essentially play MLB... However I doubt he's willing to be a backup yet.

Chilo Rachal is a guy I think would be cheap, and a nice guy to bring into camp and compete for the LG spot, or be a good backup at worst.

I'm surprised that London Fletcher is still out there. But I wouldn't bring him in here.

Your idea about 3 safeties is one of those things we really should be trying more. Troy's strength is his ability to roam all over the field - having someone solid behind him alongside Clark could be immense. But I'm aware we're kind of dreaming here.

Fletcher is a guy that's played above what he should be able to at his age for a long time now, but I worry he'll decline quickly at any time... Wouldn't mind like a 1 year deal if we don't get a starter in the draft, but I'm with you, I'd probably take a pass.

i was hoping we made a move on larry grant from the 49'ers. he is a good player and had a great game against us. they only tendered him a 7th rounder. if we get a 7th as a comp pick we could use ours for him. his only problem is the starter in front of him. he'd fit the bill next to timmons.

I don't know why I haven't heard anyone talking about Franklin. Is it because he's out of our price range or because he stinks? I haven't followed him since he was with SF, but when he was there he was very good and he's only 32 or so. That would be a great insurance policy if we can get him cheap.

Fletcher too. Old, but doesn't play like it. I'd take him for a year.

The Steelers aren't going to sign any outside free agents, Colbert said he is concerned with trying to re-sign Wallace and Crotchery. He also said there could be more roster moves releasing players.

I see alot of the Skins where I live (they are all on TV). I would have no problem with Fletcher for a year. His level of play is outstanding, esp. given his age. And the guy has a ton of heart and commitment to play at a high level.

I saw the Bengals are bringing in Amobi Okoye. Former first round pick. Only 25 years old. I remember wishing for him a few years ago in the draft. Not ideal for what we do, but I've always liked the guy. How about him?

I was thinking about him the other day too. I'm a little surprised he's been a bust thus far because I remember he started college at age 16 or something crazy like that. So he's obviously extremely intelligent and a hard worker.

He's very athletic, but not huge for a DT. I've thought he might be a "Farrior-like" signing, meaning he just doesn't fit the scheme he's playing in. He might be able to thrive as a 3-4 DE rather than a 4-3 DT. He might be able to rush the passer better than most of our DE's do with his quickness and athleticism.

The 3 safeties idea seems like it would really work for us. I'm liking it.

We are waiting to see what or if there will be a Wallace Move. I would like to sign Jericho C. though. This is how the front office operates

    1. Jake Scott, G, Titans - solid, athletic, DURABLE guard who has run up a string of 7 straight full 16 game seasons. Durability is helpful given our recent injury history with O-linemen
    2. Cotchery
    3. Leonhard if we can get him at a backup salary. I don't think he wants to be a backup, but I think his size is a detriment to him being counted on as a 16 game starter, so I'm not sure that anyone is going to pick him up at starting pay.
