I'm concerned about Javon Hargrave's future

On Twitter one of the Steelers media said he has been evaluated for a concussion 3 times in his last 9 games, so far only 1 concussion has been confirmed. This is troubling news for this to keep happening, he's a stud when he plays.

That is quite the high rate indeed.

No matter how good a player is, if he is consistently damaging his brain, he is certain to retire early.

No way he can avoid it being down in the trenches.

Wasn't there a study that showed that 99% of tested NFL brains had CTE? These guys get concussions all the time. Little ones, bad ones... football is brutal and there's no avoiding it. You see so many people retiring early these days. Its awful really. I hope he doesn't have one for his sake.

and they could have had Dontari Poe for the same amount they were trying to spend on Hightower to back up Hargrave if he did have concussion problems again.

I doubt Poe was coming to Pittsburgh to be a reserve.

SGSteeler, that study was a bit skewed. The brains studied were all former players whose families had reason for concern, such as a history of concussions or erratic behavior. I'm sure the numbers are high, but that sample wasn't representative of all football players.

Hope he stops getting them. He is a beast when healthy, One of the better draft choices we have had lately.

Love the Gravedigger, I heard this one wasn't as bad, just precautionary due to it being preseason. Regardless, concussions are nothing to mess with, especially if you get them often. Wish him the best.

I'm not buying Hargrave's story. Why would he still be in the protocol the day after the game if there was no concussion?

Perhaps. Still not buying what any player says about a concussion. Most of them will lie to play. Hines Ward proved that years ago when he questioned why Roethlisberger was so honest with the medical staff about his concussion symptoms. He couldn't believe his teammate wouldn't cover it up to play.

Brought this up pre-draft as a reason to look at Iowa DT Jaleel Johnson, who I think fits this mold. But whatever, no one had any concerns then. I hope its not recurring, Gravedigger is a badazz when he's on.
