Still don't understand why they didn't waive Hampton. The guy is not going to be ready at the start of the season much less :frustrated: not until the end. And will be out of shape and over weight. What a waste of money. :frustrated:

I agree 100% with you on this. However, they did restructure Big Snacks contract for less money against the cap. I don't think he lost any money But, they could have saved all that money by just letting him go. I don't understand why they want to hold onto a guy who is always out of shape, not to mention coming off of another ACL injury and is not a workout warrior. Very puzzled by their decision. Purhaps they are just waiting until the draft to see who they can get before they let Big Snack go. I would hope that this is their plan. Snack got pushed around a lot last year and is only a two down player, so why keep him on the team when you can just draft a young guy and go with him. McClendon can hold down the fort until the new guy is ready.

Also by letting him go, that would be more money to get Wallace re-signed. I just don't know whats on their mines. Another guy who should be gone before they decide to start him is LARRY FOOTE. This guy is not a starting ILB in the NFL, so again, why keep him. I guess they hold on to the very end because they are afraid to let the young guys play.

I also feel that Melelde Moore should be gone because his replacement is already on the roster, Barron Batch. Sepulveda should also be gone, too injry prone. No need to keep Byron Leftwich around either. They already signed Troy Smith and the young guy Jerrod Johnson, and they do have Charlie Batch, so why is Leftwich still around.

I'm serious, the Steelers need to stop messing around and get rid of all their garbage and look to the future. I'm tired of Leftwich getting hurt every pre-season and all the old guard still hanging on. They did make a few moves by letting Ward, Smitth, Kemo, and Farrior go at the right time. While they are cleaning house they might as well finish the whole house and let those people go, Hampton, Foote, Moore, Leftwich, Sepulveda and probably Gay!!!!!!

"Perhaps they are just waiting until the draft to see who they can get before they let Big Snack go".

I agree with edog55's statement above. Actually I think that is what they are doing in a bunch of instances (Foote, Moore, Sep and Leftwich). Get the draft over, look at your roster, maybe carry them over till the beginning of spring practice then make a determination to keep or cut. Just my 2 cents.

Mewelde Moore, Daniel Sepulveda, and Byron Leftwich are all free agents, as is William Gay. By not signing them, and signing players to replace them, they are essentially cleaning house. I think Hampton and Foote are still around because we don't have the players in place to take over for them. Yet.

Casey didn't have a full tear, and didn't have surgery. He will be fine. He doesn't do any cutting anyway.

He took a pay cut and we don't have a replacement for him. THATS why he's still here and I'm glad.

I thought he has surgery but that was to speed the healing so he could be back next year.

Sorry, I was wrong. He did have surgery. Still, it was only a partial tear.

first off , he didn't restructure, he took a pay cut, no further payment will be coming down the road. he also did have surgery and he's still a 35 year old 350 lb. man. partial tear or not.
as for mewelde moore, he's a pretty useful player and just too say batch is his replacement before the kid even gets on the field is wishful thinking. remember he is coming off a knee tear and he does have to cut.

    In short:

-This is one of the most important positions on the field. "Passing league" or not, there will be a domino effect if we have a bad nose tackle.
-We don't have his replacement on the roster. It would be indefensible to cut him now and risk entering the 2012 season with only McLendon, and maybe a draft pick, maybe one expected to start at some point as a rookie (for the Steelers, he better be elite to start as a rookie). This could really kill the defense.
-IF we do draft a guy who turns out to be a total stud, we can always cut him later. Doing so now would pretty much just be retarded.
-If you watch the tape, Big Snack was still stuffing the run well in 2011. He's slowing down, but still getting it done. Reports of his decline are greatly exaggerated (discussed in other thread I provided). Even if we do draft his replacement this year, it's a good idea to ease the transition.
-He took a $3 million pay cut and we did not extend his contract.
-His ACL injury is minor as far as ACLs go, and Colbert actually expects him to be ready for the season's opening. That might not happen, but he definitely figures to play most of the season.
-He's always overweight and out of shape, so I don't know what you're worried about :lolol:

Poor poor choice by Steelers to retain his services, He ate himself out of the player
he use to be. Does not stay in football shape, we could have used the money on some young
players wanting to prove there self. He will come into camp so outa shape he will be worthless
    3mill to do nothing.

That's a total joke. Every NT in the league is as big as Casey, and he's been the same size like his entire career. Yes, he's come into camp out of shape before, but he's always been ready when the season starts.

Who do you people think is going to play NT all season if we cut Casey?

Disagree. He's probably in the 340s. Some NTs are around 300. He started his career around 315, I think.

Agree! The man is overweight and out of shape 24/7, but it never stopped him before. I can only think of one season where he was really out of shape, and he missed preseason. But he was ready week 1 and played like he always does!

Some people out there think he played poorly last year. Some people think he played poorly the last three years, and anyone can replace him. There are many words for these people... But let's just call them "non football payer attentioners."

Even if Casey is out of shape and over-weight look at what he is being asked to do. I understand he has had some sacks over his career and got into the backfield but, mostly, his job is to occupy space and eat anything that runs into him. I believe the man can still eat anything that runs (his stomach is where 0-linemen go to die) into him and I know he can occupy space. If they draft his replacement and that person comes into camp on fire then you can look at releasing Casey but, at this point, you would be taking a chance. I'm not a Foote fan so he could be let go anytime, in my opinion. Moore...every time I think this guy is done he comes out on the field and does something that makes me glad he is still here...I'll keep the guy for now.

I gotta agree with the original post. Hampton should be gone. Too old, slow and out of shape to help the cause. Great Steeler player over the years, but it's time for him to hang it up.

I will agree Casey may not have played as well last year as years past, thats expected with his age. However, our defense is shaky now with their age... Without our anchor in the middle our run defense would completely fall apart.

I'd hate to see teams run on us with McClendon and Foote up the middle... And I even like McClendon (as a backup)

Let me see Mclendon,Hood, draft his replacement. there is 3 right there.
They should have purged him also. Lets hope they do at training camp.

He's a beast, in every sense of the word, both good and bad, but he's our beast of a NT in arguably one of the best run Ds in the league. You don't get there w/ a slouch @ NT in 34 D.
    and
You don't replace or draft a Casey Hampton on queue. I'll take him @ that price this year and next. Indeed, I will.
