Any else playing this, or have played it?

This game got a lot of flak because it switched the series to 1st person view, and because it's not immediately related to Umbrella/BSAA/Stars, etc.

I've been playing RE since the first game was originally released. A friend of my bought it when it came out on the original Playstation, and after playing the beginning part at his house, I immediately bought it for my Sega Saturn, and I've kept up with the games and franchise ever since.

Loved every game, although 5 and 6 were probably the low points (especially 6) for me.

Having said that, and despite all of the complaints from fans about RE7, I'm loving the new game. The setting is classic Resident Evil, it's just that the main protagonists give it a slightly different feel. Without all of the well known characters being laced throughout the game (at least up to where I am in the story, which is a little over half-way), it almost could seem like a different series, but it's definitely Resident Evil at it's core.

I'm finding the story to be great, the gameplay to be just right, the scares to be really good and not too cheap, and the puzzles to be exactly what you'd expect from one of the classic RE games. Overall though, I think what makes it so good for me, is that this game has more atmosphere than any RE game since at least RE4, if not going back to RE2 or even the original. While it's super scary, it's just a place that I'm really enjoying spending time in as a gamer. My other favorite game setting to be in is probably Portal 2, and RE7 is just as enjoyable to me but with the horror twist.

Anyway, just wondered if there are any other RE fans out there and if anyone else is playing this or not.

Once they made it first person for me I was out. My buddy got it and liked it but finished it in only like 10 hours though and went ahead and traded. Obviously nothing will ever top RE4. I've been playing RE since the 90's and do like it but really Silent Hill is my favorite horror series and it's not even close. Me and my buddy did play the absolute crap out of RE5 though and done every single thing in the game. My quote on XBOX Live used to be "1 of 2 Greatest RE5 Players Alive" just because it got on one of my buddy's nerves so bad. LOL! 6 was a joke though. Revelations is pretty fun if you have a 3ds also. I wish they would remake RE ZERO and make it a complete 2 player game the way 5 was.

I loved RE4 (still do), but nothing tops RE1 for me in terms of atmosphere and scariness.

I started the 1st Silent Hill and never got very far, although I've always wanted to go back and play the series. I had a friend who LOVED the 1st Silent Hill game, but he didn't play it as a survival game (didn't conserve like you need to), and he played it in a way that he couldn't beat the game. He got all the way to the final boss, and only had a few bullets left at his last save point. He'd go in to fight the final boss, shoot his last few rounds of ammo, then try to win using melee, and he was never able to beat it. He tried so hard for so long, but never could do it.

Yeah if you didn't manage your inventory you'd hit a wall that you couldn't get past. Silent Hill 2 is hands down the best "horror" game ever made. That game is just an absolute masterpiece of Japanese weirdness. My thing about RE is that I've never really considered it "scary" per se because I've never found zombies to be that scary. Silent Hill is all about psychological horror and incredible monsters and the fog makes it even better. I HIGHLY recommend you get the HD Collection.

I'd love to get the Silent Hill HD collection, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's available on PS4, and my PS3 bit the dust.

I did play some of the 2nd SH game with that same friend that never beat the first one. We played about 3 or 4 hours of it with a group of 3 of us taking turns when it first came out on PS2. It was pretty amazing, and like I said, I'd love to get to play those games all the way through some time.
