RGlll??? Ryan Leaf??? Tom Brady??? It's easy to gauge one's height ,weight, speed but gauging what it takes to be a future Franchise QB is still surprisingly difficult.

Point is that if a FO does its homework and truly believes a player can be THAT QB and he's available you must draft him.

Rodgers was in play for the first overall pick, the 49ers are idiots and chose Alex Smith. Rodgers slid because most teams didn't need a QB in the first round that year.

The scouts were all over bad mouthing rodgers that year, some said he wasnt a first round prospect:

“He’s a system quarterback,” an AFC scout told McGinn. “3-, 5-, 7-step guy. Can’t create on his own. Panics under pressure. Gets flustered easy. I don’t think there’s a quarterback in the draft worthy of a first-round pick. I’m dead serious. None of them are worth it.”

Another evaluator compared Rodgers to quarterbacking luminaries such as Kyle Boller and Joey Harrington. Of course, it’s easy to dump on really smart football guys with the benefit of hindsight. The Packers no doubt were patient and did a good job of developing Rodgers. The player gets credit for furthering his development, too. But looking back on it now, those reports couldn’t look any worse. NESN

Rodgers and Brady both still harbor a chip on their shoulders from how the draft went down for them. This chip fuels their passion and competitiveness. So, my question is, would they be the players they are today if they went higer in the draft and never had that chip?

I don't think circumstances birth the passion and competitiveness. Hones it, amplifies it, for sure. But I think they had that drive already.
