There is a report by Michael Lombardi that Sherman is available for trade, if the offers are serious. Would you do it? I would offer Sammie Coates and a third round pick :hehehe:. The Seahawks are probably tired of his act, last season he was yelling at their OC during a game over the playcalling. That :poopy: won't fly in Pittsburgh.

That would probably want way more than that for him. They probably want a 1st and a starter. They are floating him for a ransom to see if they can get something big for his last 2 prime years.

No. Has nothing to do with his character or playmaking ability.

While he would help lock down the left side of the field, how much is that going to help us get to the quarterback faster?

If this were Frank Clark, I would be willing to listen for the right price.

Plays man press and cover 3 zone
Is 28 years old and one of the premier players at the position
2 years remaining at ~11 million per

I would definitely trade the 30th pick and then some for Sherman

Have to find a way to make it work with the cap though

Never in a millions years will it happen. No matter how great it would be, or bad anyone wants it. We don't spend money on D. Look at our roster.

They brought Hightower for a look see and were interested. Sherman i'm sure is still bitter about that Super Bowl loss due to the worst play call ever in Pro Sports. He would bring lock down. Pass rush and quality secondary go hand in hand. It would take i'm sure the 1st rounder. The change of scenery might do him good and give a bit more edge to this Defense and a solid presence. Hopefully they explore...

I just read this article over on MSN.
I'd love to see Sherman in a Steelers uniform, but I just don't see it happening. What do the Steelers have that the Seahawks would want (besides that SB XL win ). Also, as was mentioned, they really don't have the cap space. So short of extending him and finding a way to lower the cap hit, I don't think it's feasible. And if they did that, they'd be in cap trouble later on down the road.

I do not want scherman. Love him as a player. He is worse than DeAngelo on twitter and with news comments. I have a feeling that is why DeAngelo is a FA. I did love most of what De said but think the front office didn't.
BTW He was right. Peyton couldn't play dead in a western his next to last year

I would think a player of interest in a package deal to Seattle would be Stephon Tuitt.

The Steelers are going to have some difficult decisions to make next offseason (UFA: Tuitt, Shazier, Bryant... potentially Bell again along with Hubbard, Cockrell and potentially big RFA tenders for Villanueva, Rogers). Assuming we keep Bell... I would say it is very unlikely that we keep both Tuitt and Shazier.

Now adding an 11 million contract (Sherman) doesn't sound like it will help with that... but it would. Our big UFAs will need long term deals. And long term deal usually have low cap figues up front. So a 2 year / 11 per deal is something that in theory could be made to fit, as it would only be on the books for the first year of the new contracts for UFAs.

i memtion bryant because of what happened with santonio holmes. that looming for life suspension is huge for bryant and i'm not so sure art2 is all that fond of this kid after the let down the last two years. we keep looking at wr's at pro days and we brought hunter in. AB got his contract. i believe there is a cold feeling with martavis and the org. right now. just a feeling. i think they like tuitts leadership. his play stepped up and helps our pass rush and will even more with cam back. as i said just a hunch.

You gave all the reasons why Seattle would have little to no interest in Bryant.

I think they like Tuitt too... but it's going to be near impossible for them to sign Bell, Shazier, and Tuitt to long term deals.

so much depends on ben. gilbert. mitchell. moats. gay. golden. suisham off the books. green. i see many things setting themslves up by next year having to do with some of these guys.

moats could be let go this year.
gay by this year or next.
    golden this year or next.
    mitchell by next year.
gilbert, i know very solid but that 3rd contract with a couple of young tackles getting another year to learn under munch.
green? we shall see this year.
bell could be franchised again and then they could decide if his usefulness has declined by then enough to move on. RB's have a way of turning quickly.
    is this bens last?
pete carroll has been a guy to take a chance on some character guys. will art?

The only reason I think it`s possible is we probably only have a two year window to win a S.B., then be lost in the wilderness until we get the next franchise QB. Management should consider it may be time to break pattern and reach to win now at a moderate expense to the future.

If we had a player they really wanted and we were willing to part with, maybe a rare trade plus draft picks could make it happen IMO.

This converation is all about the 2018 cap... because that's where we have the tough decisions
    Yes, Moats will be gone

Crazy Talk... Marcus Gilbert is borderline pro bowl level RT and he's signed for a bargain

The Steelers are at 126 million in cap already for 2018. Let's say the cap goes up to 175 million... You think WOW we've got 50 million in cap space. But that's without Bell, Hubbard, Cockrell, Tuitt, Shazier (although they could pick up his 8 million option), Bryant, McCullers, Johnson, Toussiant, Fort, Villanueva, Nix, Boswell, Berry, Chickillo, Rogers, Dangerfield, Grimble, Hamilton, Hajj-Shabazz, Ayers, at about a dozen other ERFA.

It's really 126 million committed to 27 players... or half a freaking roster.
Bell - Pending an enormous contract
Shazier - Pending a Heyward type contract

Once you add those 2 in....you've cut your cap space in half... and still have to sign ~25 players...

Sure... cap space can be created (cut Gay, Golden, Golson, and/or Harrison) but those are 1-2 million dollar players... and they'll need to be replaced at similar costs anyways.

All I'm trying to say in this uncoordinated diatribe... is that we've got this short window with Ben... and swapping a player who will command a long term big cap dollar (Tuitt) with a short term player who has an even larger cap figure (Sherman) is a Bellichick like tactical approach to cap management and maximizing talent in a given year.

Bryant is under contract for 2 more seasons, they won't have to worry about him next offseason if he stays clean.

If you want to beat New England you better have good play in the secondary, guys like Cockrell and Gay are toast against Brady.

I think the Steelers should look into it, a secondary with Burns, Sherman, Golson, Cockrell, then your rookie CB won't be pressed to play too early.

    Not true.

If you want to beat New England, you better have an effective pass rush. A pass rush will do more wonders than a corner like Sherman would.

Yeah but you are clearly forgetting something major.....as soon as he puts on the Steeler uniform he will automatically be the most penalized player in the game....:hehehe:

I don't care what kind of pass rush you have if you are gonna continue to allow receivers to run free all over the field. So if their claim that we don't have CBs good enough to play man and disrupt their releases is true...it won't matter who you have rushing the QB...pitch and catch. So yeah corners do make a difference...

LOL at Coates and a 3rd for Sherman. It would probably take Bryant and a 1st or 2nd. None of this works with our cap situation. Exactly why some of us didn't want to pay AB so much. Make him honor his contract and spend money on FA. That gives us 1 year of a really good shot at Super Bowl. And who knows what happens next year as Coates, Green, Bell, Bryant, Rogers progress. Draft a WR in the 1st round this year and he'd have a year to get ready.

All of this is out the window when they gave AB that huge contract.
