Just curious what everyone thinks the future of Tyler Matakevich is in the years to come?

Do you think he might be a future starter or is he just a solid depth special teams guy?

I don't think we have seen him on the field enough to really know what he can do defensively. He has had a year in the system, a year with the playbook, and a year in the room with his ILB coach. Next preseason is where we will start seeing what he can do. I do believe he is limited athletically. That may limit his potential to nothing but special teamer/depth.

With so little gametime... it is really difficult to project his ceiling as of now.

Give him some more time. Besides, he has a full offseason ahead of him to improve. We shall find out how well he becomes next season.

All I can say is he has a good motor and is incredibly football smart. Other than that not enough tape.

So was Jerry Olsavsky the ILB coach. And those who remember knew what he brought to the table...

I know it is not much to go on, but he really seems to have the ability to see the field and sniff out plays. It is pretty obvious when you watch him out there.

Mentally probably All -Pro.....physically is the big question mark. I do think I remember someone posting his combine times and was very similar to Chris Borland who was pretty damn good while it lasted....you never know. Like Yogi used to say about baseball " the game is 90% mental and 15% physical " or something like that.:smiley1:

Larry Foote type upside maybe. Hard to tell. It's tough to be an ILB in today's NFL if you lack straight line speed. The ability to cover RB's and TE's up the field is at a premium. For this reason it's hard to project him as a full time starter for any period of time, but I won't count him out yet.

Special team ace and should be an excellent back up who could start if injuries warrant it.

He's the type of guy you'd see New England snap up in a heartbeat!

They don't draft these guys. They let other teams draft them and watch them in preseason and camp. When those teams cut them, they swoop in and give them a minimum deal and they play pretty solid for them.

I keep hearing this physical crap with him, but I say if he's got the mental side down, let him play. It's the reverse of Troy P the last few years. It was clear he was tailing off physically and really didn't have the mental ability to adjust, but they kept putting him out there saying he was the veteran and knew where to be.

Interesting ... Red and Foote do have similar 40 times coming out, but it is a different era of NFL... Hard to say.

Just a good old fashioned football player. Will be fine, good comparison when somebody mentioned Jerry O.
