I wanted Vickers coming out of college....IMO he is one of the top 3 or 4 FBs in the league....and he has some power running to go with that hard head.

Might be a nice fit if the Steelers are looking for a FB again.

Ill take Vickers over Johnson anyday.

Won't happen. To the disappointment of many here I'm sure, Haley doesn't use a true FB in his offense.

Beat me to it B&G, Haley doesn't use them and according to an article I read last season, neither do a lot of teams, article went on to say how it's a dying breed. Don't know if that's true or not since I don't follow other teams that closely but it might be right. Our last 2 OC's don't believe in it.

Whisenhunt used Kreider plenty. I was just watching the 2004 Giants-Steelers game, and Kreider was knockin' 'em down like bowling pins.

It's a popular notion that it's a dying breed, and it is for a lot of OCs, but it doesn't make it right or smart. There will always be times when you are expected to run and intend to run, and there will always be times when you use a lead blocker. The Steelers are a perfect example. They stopped using a fullback, but continued to use lead blockers almost every running play. What is the point of this? To save a roster space? Because an "H-Back" is supposed to be more versitile than a fullback? Bull. You have a roster spot for guys who only play special teams and don't even back up other positions, but you half-ass every single running play? Bull. You have room for a fullback.

if you have a good enough rb on the team, he should be able to lead block too. coaching it seems to be a dying breed too. clay or dwyer are big enough for all that it's used. send them through the hole first with the qb riding the belly like in the old days of the wishbone. if he don't like what he sees then pull it out. they still have to account for the first guy through. it's not rocket science. two back delay.

I'm with snack on this one. My huge problem with using an H-back or Te as a lead blocker is that they lack the instinct of a running back, they don't know who to block and who to leave for the guy with the ball to make a move on. I have watched Johnson ignore a LB in favor of blocking a safety because he did get that Mendenhall can make a move on a safety in the second level but can't do it if the LB hits him in the hole that Johnson just came through. There is a skill involved in being a lead blocker, something that can't be an after thought.

You may just get your wish come the 26th. Steelers don't have the cash but they always pick up strays not signed.

Wallace and brown outside...vickers and redman in the I.....pick your poison
