I hate that someone posts every time someone is cut from a team... but there's a guy recently on the market that makes a ton of sense for us to sign in my opinion.

Cedric Griffin was just released by the Vikings, Griffin was drafted in 2006 when... guess who, was defensive coordinator for the Vikings. Tomlin also benched Fred Smoot in favor of Griffin that year, so that makes me think he liked him quite a bit at one time. I think there will be a competition for the #2 CB spot in training camp between Lewis, Butler, and Brown... but it couldn't hurt to have Griffin to take Gay's spot on the roster. Tomlin did this with MeMo.

Griffin has suffered a couple of bad knee injuries the past couple years, and is coming off a pretty bad year for the Vikings where I think he was butting heads with the coaching staff. I think he could be had for a very modest, incentive laden contract. He's not a pro bowler by any means, but he's still relatively young, and would be an upgrade over Gay most likely.

There is nothing wrong with looking at free agents. If some people do not like it then do not read. I just like to see guys with class vs a big name.

I believe that Butler is in Arizona.

Also the Dykes just cut a guard too. Now that could be interesting. He's a veteran player and we need some depth. Maybe he could function like a Flozell. Without the token false start penalty atleast once EVERY game.

Do you know the name of the player or team?

I think he's talking about the Vikings and the release of Herrera (sp?) and Hutchinson.

I'm sure he meant C. Allen not Butler.

THere's not, and I usually don't read them, but still roll my eyes when we're cutting our own to get under the cap and someone mentions us signing Carl Nicks.

And I think rolling your eyes is the perfect response to that. I don't see why other people have to :bscow: all over someone else's parade when all they really have to do is either not even open it, say nothing at all and move on, or say, "Nah, probably won't happen for the following reasons..."

It's the offseason. This is what there is to talk about. Gary Brackett's not such a terrible idea and is at least worth thinking about, especially if we don't find a day 1 starter in the draft, and the guy who suggested him got pummelled by d-bags. I don't get it. Carl Nicks is ridiculous, of course, but it's so unnecessary to yell at or make fun of the guy who suggested it, who is clearly just not very informed or maybe bored. And it's just illogical, mean and pointless to complain about the very existence of these threads. I'm a very active poster here, but I don't even open probably half the threads on the front page any given day. And so I never read one I don't like the existence of. I also think that if anyone does want to have a detailed and thorough discussion about any free agents, each potential free agent should have its own thread. It makes it easier. If you don't like having 5-10 threads on the front page with different names on them, what are you doing here? Just grow up, people.

Agreed. A few guys will get signed though, so I do not see what is wrong with talking about some.

Yeah Hutchinson was the guard that was released. I saw the story on nfl.com. He's a 5 time all pro 1st tream guard. Also, just look at Adrian Peterson's numbers and tell me you wouldn't like to have a little of that line wearing black and gold.

I'd definitely be all over Hutchinson too, but I wonder if he'll generate more interest being a big name (even though he's well past his prime). Those are the sort of signings that I'd love for us to make, because they often work out even though a lot of teams thing a guy is washed up...

Look at the Ravens OL with Bryant McKinnie and Matt Birk. Flozell was a great band-aid (although I'm not sure we've found a viable solution yet).

There's a special place for draft news and maybe there should be a place for Free agency. I know we are not the big time players in FA but we usually do get key FA to lock down our roster. Ryan Clark, James Farrior are examples.

Hutchinson may someday be a HOFer so why was he cut? Can we afford him and does he have anything left in the tank for the next 3 yrs. The answers to these questions should determine our interest in him.
