Hi, Spartacus. Welcome to the board.

This is being discussed a bit on this thread too:

    http://www.thesteelersfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2430

I'm not going to merge these threads at this time though. :) It's a fair question. Honestly, I can only speculate that the Steelers are waiting to see if he's offered anything from another team and then go from there. I'm sure Wallace's agent is playing a similar game.

I can see a long-term deal being worked out, much longer than the traditional contract for a WR; I'm thinking 7 years for around $50 million. Behind the all the stuffy business talk I see a guy who really wants to be in PIT, enjoys the offensive system and gets along well with the players and coaching staff. His style of play favors a relatively injury-free career, barring a freak injury, and I can see him keeping his speed well into his 30's.

Bottom line I think around $7 million/year will sign him, erring closer to $6 mil.

    Welcome to the board! :herewego:

Hopefully they sign Wallace soon. I'm sure they are negotiating but I just want the peace of mind that comes with having him signed

Spartacus you are the man, love your name because Spartacus is the man. I love the show and would not miss it for anything. Maybe a Steelers game, but I would record it or catch it ON DEMAND! The show is off the chain>>>

As far as Wallace is concerned, I read somewhere today that there has not been a RFA signed in the nfl in the last 10 years. Most teams are not willing to give up a first round pick for a player. I guess thats good for the Steelers, but you never know, stranger things have happened. Lets just hope Wallace doesn't get and offer, even one that the Steelers have to match. If he doesn't get an offer, I think he will be a Steeler for a long time

Pfft, there's only one Spartacus, and that's Kirk Douglas.

And all of his mates at the end of the film, I suppose. Hmm.

I do agree with your point on Wallace, though, edog (not often I do!). If Wallace had set the league alight for the whole season, and not just the first half, then maybe I would be more worried about teams willing to risk a first round pick on him. But I don't think any will. The only team that might that's been suggested is the Bengals. Which would be horrible.

If no other team offers him a deal, he basically is signed for about $2.6 million for this upcoming season.

Don't read too much into the fact that teams haven't made an offer to a RFA in the last 10 years. In the past, it was harder to do that as you had to give up a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick. The new CBA changed that so now teams only have to give up a 1st round pick. For a team drafting late in the 1st round, they may look at Wallace and consider him less risky than anyone they can get in the draft. I personally don't think any team will make him an offer, but it won't surprise me if it happens.

I think if any team does offer him a deal, it will be San Fran

If and when they do work out a long term contract it is my hope that get away from these bloated contracts that look great when signed but as the deal progress hurt the team more when they are up against the cap.Yes the cap will go up this year but if they give wallace a huge payday this year and Brawn and Sanders one next year then two three years down the line they are once again at the point where they are asking seven to eight players to restructure, cutting veteran players and massaging the numbers to get cap space. I hope in the rush to get Wallace signed they don't over pay him.

    Welcom Sparacus!

Ray I think your on the right track with this train of thought. It would be silly for the organization to do anything else but wait and see, at this point.

Well in the last 10 years, the rules were slightly different, in that a team would have to give up a 1st and 3rd to sign that same Wallace RFA. The speculation is now that a team might be willing to give up just a single first round pick for Wallace, especially if they are a late round team with cap space.

I think it'll be a 4 or 5 year deal worth around 8 million a year (4/32, 5/40). I'd be willing to bet Wallace is probably looking for a longer term deal, like 6 years, but I doubt he'll get that from anyone.

It's an edit of an older GIF of Haley that's been floating around the internet for a while. I said in passing that I wished I could edit it with lines about the OC opening...

... And TTF made those wishes true. He made it for me to my surprise.
