Plax says Ben is the best QB he has played with and this article says he would welcome a return. Obviously he wants to get paid and be on a contender so he has nothing to lose by saying this.

But what do you guys think about Plax? How much will he command in a contract? How likely is it we bring him back? How much do the odds increase if we lose Wallace? If we sign Wallace but lose Cotchery? Interested to hear your thoughts...

We could definitely use him, as we have nothing like him on our roster, but I fear he'll come with too high of a price tag for us to be in serious consideration for his services. Always liked Plax, but I don't think the talk of him coming back will ever amount to anything. If he does return, we may see plays other than the mad scramble in the red zone passing game.

If we lose Mike Wallace, this might be an option if the price is right. Otherwise, I just don't see it happening.

He had his chance, a 2nd time around and to make a new fresh start and he chose another team.

I would rather just have Cotchery back than bring in Plaxico. Cotchery was developing a nice chemistry with Ben, he is much more of a team guy, and he will also come slightly cheaper, and right now every dime counts. The thing that tempts me about it at all is the fact he would be a great red zone target where we have struggled the last couple years.

So you hold a grudge against him for going to the Jets?

We have too many salary cap issues for me to see this happening. Plax has a ring (and was kind of a big part of getting it -- Tyree didn't catch the game-winner). He's not going to play for the minimum salary for one last shot at a ring. If we're going to spend money, we should spend it on players who aren't receivers (and on Mike Wallace).

Did I say I hold a grudge against him for going to the Jets?

He had his chance, and it was not that long ago, and obviously he was interested in playing for us. I doubt we're willing to pay him what he thinks he's worth and I think that's correct.

We have a WR core and a big money receiver we need to be concentrating and focusing the payroll on already.

If he wasn't 6'6 I'd have no interest at all, but he is, so it does intrigue me a little bit. We need a big red zone target, and I'm absolutely sticking to that even if some here disagree with me. Most of the best red zone offenses have a guy that can go up and get the ball.

If we re-sign Cotchery then I don't see it happening... If we don't though, I'd be all for it.

What he has going fir him is haleys love aof big targets. That said i think he is just using the steelers to drive up the price again.

Plex was not the WR he was coming out...was it rust? Maybe...but even with rust he produced majorly in the redzone....a place where the Steelers are lacking.

The key here is dependent upon his price tag. I think Plex thinks enough of himself that he will want a lot. If he came at the right price tag how could you not give him a shot? Either way...don't see this one happening.

I keep hearing this and I think it's kind of silly. Everyone knows the Steelers aren't going to get into a bidding war over him... If he was going to do that wouldn't he use a team that was probably not a contender and desperate for WR help? Since they'd offer the most money.

I think he just chose the Jets over us, and people are salty about that and want to say he "used" us.

Plax in lieu of Cotchery or with Cotchery if Wallace goes elsewhere. If we get both those guys back, and I think we will, Plax will have to go somewhere else.

i say we better get a draft pick and a few decent udfa's in here to compete and see what we have. if we lose wallace this year and we have our other two starters up for free agency next year, we better damn well know what we have to work with for the future instead of dealing with the likes of plex and his baggage. cotchery makes sense. we need to keep brown and sanders. we need our next go to young player to get a year under his belt so we know what to do. quit going backwards just when we are moving forward. we don't have the money to shore up the line and sign our top guy but we want to get this idiot. really?

He's generating a buzz. I don't think he used us, I think he marketed himself. Not all that different to Tommy Maddox writing to all the NFL teams asking for a job, just Plex is doing it from a slightly stronger position.

Yup, agree with this. Plax definitely brings value, even as he's aging and slowing down. But he's a long-strider and will have residual speed because of that approaching his 40's.

If Wallace leaves, we will need an X receiver. I see a lot of guys who can fill Z and slot roles, but nobody that I think can be effective on the line of scrimmage where a corner can get his hands on him at the snap. Plax would fill that need for us, and be a great red zone threat to boot.
