If you were truly realistic you wouldn't be upset or complain after what you predicted came true.

I have never been overly confident in the playoffs that the steelers were a lock to go all the way, more confident in the 70s team than since that era, stewart blew 2 AFCC games that started that doubt to creep into my mind, the 04 loss at home as the 1 seed was a heart breaker, losing to the jags as division champs was another ridiculous loss, losing a home division champ game to the rats 30-15 was another downer, using the excuse that Bell was out injured in that game was just a cop out in my opinion, so the doubt does creep in every time they make the playoffs, so for me it's a wait and see if they want it bad enough or not....

So I can't criticize my favorite team? How is that not being realistic? Even when my negative predictions come true... I have every right to elaborate on what happened after the game is over. And be pissed off about it.

The Steelers do not have that killer instinct that great teams like the Patriots have. The Steelers do not put teams away, when they obviously have the talent on the offensive side of the ball to do so. This... is exactly what is going to send them home packing either this week or next week. Sooner or later.. the offense is not gonna be able to make up the point deficit for a comeback.

REAL STEEL is the only one on here that is what you claim to be way outside. Everyone else just has general concerns about the direction and future of the team. You seem to think that just because one is on a pessimistic veiw (at this time) that they are not enjoying the moment/season. That is just not true. You take these posts too seriously if it really brings you down.

I wonder if we need a new sub-forum called "Steelers Fans Talk About Steelers Fans" so that we can keep these types of discussions out of the "Steelers Talk" forum.

Kidding aside, this kind of fan vs. fan thread is pretty unnecessary. I will often debate the pessimists who call themselves realists on the merits (or lack thereof) of their arguments, but I don't think that they're "lesser" fans because of their pessimism. Different people deal with the emotional roller coaster of fandom in different ways. It doesn't mean that they're bandwagon fans if they view the team through a pessimistic lens and are pleasantly surprised when things work out. Bandwagon fans are people like a guy I used to work with when I lived in Pats country who told me "I used to be a Steelers fan until the Pats got good." THAT'S a bandwagon fan.

So, pessimists who call yourselves realists, keep it coming. The debates are (sometimes) interesting. I will still try to administer therapy by pointing out the inconsistencies in your arguments, but I for one understand that your pessimism doesn't mean that you're any less a fan than I am.

P.S. - if we win #7 this year, I do hope you have the good sense to celebrate the victory before predicting doom for the 2017 draft, and maybe give Tomlin a little bit of credit :smiley1:

    /end rant

I don't think Real Steel is that far "outside." He's just a bit more... creative in his painting of doom scenarios. It can actually be kind of amusing.

    :icon e biggrin:

I'm not Real Steel. I've seen a few of his posts. He is the "Edgar Allen Poe" of this message board.

I have yet to achieve his level of doom and gloom. :emperor:

Lol the discussion on this thread is like this seasons theme on TSF.

Ironically, there have been much worse offenders in years gone by. There was that guy who gleefully called everyone out when we were eliminated because he had apparently called it in week 4...

I just want this Team to perform at their best ...I think we can all agree that the O has not lived up to the hype...I think we all know that our D still has some problems ...I think we all have seen that both units are capable of playing above the line Football, we have seen glimpses of it but not a complete game of it ....

I have seen Teams flip switches before our HS Wrestling Team comes to mind as I write this...We did o.k. in the regular season and placed 2nd. or 3rd. in the conference and regionals then went to the state and won it in back to back years not winning the conference or regionals either year ...

It just reminds me that if the Talent is there then you always have a chance to get hot at the right time and do your best at the biggest moments ...I hope this is such a time for the Steelers....Hope, no that's not the right word...I believe this is such a time....

Still pissed about that game...had a guy off the street trying to block and release on the Suggs INT. All because Blount decided to walk off on the team and got released.

Lol, the responses are great. I do understand that we all have our opinions and sometimes I don't agree with them as well as some don't agree with me. In starting this thread I just wanted to point out how some people are still not happy even with a playoff berth? Just baffles me that earning a spot comes with criticism. Anywho, I have my BL Steelers cans chilling just waiting for kickoff, so feel free to stop by, just leave your pessimist attitude in the car

I have concerns about our team in the playoffs. I think we'll have a tough time with K. C. and N.E. Our Run defense the last couple games is concerning.
I just have trouble with people who come on here and argue that we'll lose. Concerned we'll lose sure, but some people go a bit overboard.

This debate is popping up in every thread. That tells me there's something to it.

With that said. This arguing is silly. We should be enjoying the fact that we made the playoffs and be ready to cheer our team on! ( just not when we're on offense)

I've always felt that what good is victory if you can't feel morally superior afterwards?

and also using the skulls of your enemy to quench your battle thirst after the battle but that is a given.
