So long you overrated hack. Now take your gimmick system back to where it belongs with all the future insurance and real estate salesmen because this is the big boys league.

He pretty much wasted the Eagles time and then ran the 9ers in to the ground too. But oh he's SUCH an innovator... I remember the first game they showed of the Eagles on tv and they had a little clock in the corner showing how quickly they were getting plays off. So ridiculous.

I was surprised at how poorly things went for Kelly. I am not a fan, but I respected what he was able to do at Oregon and thought he was capable of replicating it in the NFL. I wouldn't have said that 10-15 years ago, but I think the NFL is shifting, to players who are younger, temporary, and more prone to playing in a spread offense.

I honestly don't think the wheel will ever be reinvented in the NFL. Coordinators might get fooled for a second but that's about it.

Chip Kelly had Mouse Davis syndrome. I can't even remember what they called that Mouse Davis innovation that he ran in Houston with Warren Moon, but it fizzled too.

But sometimes innovators make it work, like Bill Walsh and the West Coast Offense, and Buddy Ryan and the 46 Defense, and the Redskins counter-trey.

I think for me the difference is that today's players are starting more as rookies and in year 2, and a "college" coach with a 'college" mentality, who's accustomed to having players for only 3-4 years, is going to be more successful now than back in the day.

For a long time, college coaches did NOT translate well to the NFL. I remember Lou Holtz with the Jets--disaster. Same with Bud Wilkinson in St. Louis. John McKay mostly struggled with Tampa Bay--and made the big mistake of taking his man Ricky Bell over Tony Dorsett. Jimmy Johnson was the first college coach I remember coming into the NFL and making a huge impact. John Robinson didn't do too poorly with the Rams.

Now, in recent years, we've seen Pete Carroll, who was so-so in his first stint in the NFL, now become a better HC after his years in college. I think part of that is relating to today's player. Jim Harbaugh also had immediate success. Bill O'Brien is making chicken salad out of chicken $#!t in Houston. Dirk Koetter, once a HC at Arizona State, is hanging in there in Tampa.

I think you're seeing coaches that can change more now.

Chip Kelly's problem is that he hasn't embraced the change he needs to be successful.

Look at Tom Coughlin. He had to change to get to the next level. You can't be totally rigid and be successful in the NFL anymore.

Davis doesn't get the Pro-player or the locker room part of it yet. As a college coach you can force it all to work and the respect you get is imparted when that kid comes to your school. That ain't happening in the NFL!
