He will still be a patriot next year, belichick isnt going to trade him off, not with a 40 year old brady starting at QB....

Plus I'd be afraid of him turning out to be another Matt Cassell, although Cassell was signed to be a starter. Tough to tell with those cast away Patriot players. Don't think Garropolo would change teams just to be a back up somewhere else and like you said - sitting behind a 40yr old starter where he's at now.

If the steelers really believe in Landry they'll probably sell him on the point that he could start in 3-4 years when Ben retires. If they dont believe in him and he finds some team willing to pay him then they'll let him walk.

I doubt they think he'll be the starter, but I can't see them letting him go. He's a capable back up, knows the playbook, embedded in the team.

agreed. It depends if they think anything of Mettenberger too. He has had a whole year to learn the playbook. Could get the long preseason look Landry usually gets if Landry does leave.

I've never seen anybody on here claim that Landry is a starting caliber QB. Who actually thinks that one of the 31 other teams out there is licking their chops to sign LJ as their starting franchise QB? It is not going to happen. ZM has much better upside for Ben's backup.

Hopefully the Landry Jones experiment is over after Sunday. This year or
next year Ben's heir apparent will be chosen.

No one has said ZM is a starting caliber QB either, but I think he should split playing time with LJ against the browns Sunday and at least get a shot at showing what he has to offer, his criminal charge incident in Georgia for sexual assault at a bar and under age drinking and brawling resulted in two years probation and community service, and that cost him a higher draft position in the draft, but he should get to play a half sunday or why keep him around.....

Yep we know what we have in LJ...A game manager at most with problems making the correct reads ..I think both guys should get a half and if they can't shine against a HS caliber defense then neither should be brought back ...If they don't play ZM at all then I would see that as a clear attempt to make the final decision on LJ ....

I think a half should be enough , maybe they feel they owe him a full game ?

I don't believe the Clown game will what makes the Steelers or anyone else want him, but let's face it will be what is fresh in everyone's mind. Also we all know that it is usual for bad teams to over pay for good teams free agents no matter how good or bad they are.

If he plays good someone may give him more then I would want the Steelers to give him as a back up and that's 3-4 mil a year. I don't believe we are gonna see another Chase Daniel contract 3/21 to be a back up but I can see Weeden(2/4) or McCoy(3/9) as something LJ will get and to me that is too much.
Now if he plays bad then I can see someone low balling him to something like a McCown(2/3) or a Tolzien(2/3.5) type deal.

So I ask myself is 1.5 a year to much for a guy who has been here 4 years and knows the system? I don't know cause I look at what we are going to be paying ZM(690k) and I say to myself is there really that big of a difference between these 2 qb's? I don't have a lot of faith is LJ yeah he did well in 2015 vs the Cards but then not so good vs KC. He did good vs the Cheats this year but has he shown enough for us to pay him twice as much as ZM, and then there is the question of is ZM even as good as LJ?
If it were my decision I think I would save the money and use every penny I have on AV, Bell, AB and Timmons. I roll the dice and hope BB stays healthy and we don't need a back up but if we do isn't the season over anyways? I say from the money stand point I let LJ walk and work on getting ZM up to speed and draft a guy who we can work with the next 4 years.

I can understand wanting to pay 1.5-2.5 to keep him as he know the system and with our window being small that may be what some feel is best. It is going to be interesting to see what his market is and what our interest is as well. Just my thoughts

I'm pretty sure none of us have to worry about LJ impressing anyone enough that we really need to worry about losing him....IMO he has had enough opportunity to show what he can do and from what I've seen I could take it or leave it...I agree that ZM has more upside and would at least like to see him get a shot....

I think the team will bring both LJ and ZM back next year to be Ben's backup. I doubt they will draft Ben's replacement unless someone falls to them as the BPA and they can't pass them up.

I actually think we should retain him. Of course if he's cheap. He knows our system and can at times play pretty well. That's all you can really ask for a backup. ZM hasn't played much with us but he had a flash of decency with Tennessee.

I know with Ben being injury prone we definitely needed a capable backup but I think we should of traded Jones this season. Think of how many teams need a QB. Heck if Osweiler can get a $37 million guaranteed Jones should get a look by some QB desperate team. I think we could of gotten a decent player back for him. To answer your question I think he should be resigned but for cheap. I don't think ZM will be a good backup or we would of seen him when Ben went down instead of Jones.

I say keep him if they are willing to give him a chance. Signing Vic with a healthy and versed Landry Jones had me flummoxed; why have an experienced backup just to sign a guy like Vic? Either have confidence in him or not. If the Steelers do no believe he can perform in the backup role, then move on and find a guy that can meet expectations. The guy has surely been around long enough to figure all of this out, and yet, it is still a vigorously discussed topic. I suspect this same discussion will be going on again in the next year or two. The Steelers really need to figure this out.

I'm more shocked that people actually think that a game against the Browns, again I say, the BROWNS, is some type of measuring stick for Landry Jones. I just think that's the funniest thing. :lolol:
