I'd honestly be kinda surprised if Gay wasn't back. I also think we keep Timmons on a hometown discount. He's commonly known as Tomlin's favorite player.

Just because he was Tomlin's first draft pick doesn't mean he will be back. They already re-signed Vince Williams, I don't expect Timmons back plus he's mostly a liability in pass coverage.

Possibly at reduced or restructured contracts, but I anticipate Gay, Timmons and Moats all back next season, at least at the beginning of camp.

It's not like we are overloaded with talent.

Funny how keeps getting in coverage situation mismatches.

Gay is a solid backup. I have my doubts if Golson will even play next year.

Agree to keeping Moats. Should JJ go, need Moats for depth. Will this be another round one OLB year?

I'm not so sure they get rid of Gay and Moats, they still need vets with experience.

I think they'd keep JJ over Moats if the price is right. Im not so sure he's gone next season.

Neither am I. I just don't think anyone will really offer him anything and we might bring him back on the cheap. I still think he's kind of a waste of a roster spot though. I'm just done with him.

His contract expires at the end of the year, so it can't be restructured. If you mean that he'll need to re-sign at a much lower price, then yeah I agree.

I can see him getting an offer from another team that we wouldn't match. Doubt he'd accept a hometown discount offer but maybe

    Oh. Right.

Then I suppose we will have to find out how much Timmons has left. Considering Tolzein attacked the areas in which Timmons was located (in addition to other quarterbacks this year), time may be running out for Tomlins first pick.

Personally I believe it is sadly time for both the Steelers and Timmons to part ways.

Why else would Vince Williams obtain a contract extension? Within the same token, due to today's pass happy NFL, I do not believe that Williams is the answer in the middle either in terms of pass coverage.

We are talking about vets here. If there is an up and coming rookie pushing for a starting position, typically the vet is given the opportunity to make money elsewhere. We are not in that position too much on defense. Therefore, for depth and competition in camp, I suspect all will be offered a friendly short term low bonus contract. If they can find better opportunities elsewhere, god bless them and thank you. If not, bring them back, see what the draft and free agency brings, and decide during camp who stays.

    It's not rocket science.

Something to keep in mind is Shazier and Tuitt are only signed thru the end of next season. They will need to contracts. All the cap space the steelers have (which is a lot for once) will ikely go to keeping bell, brown, shazier, and tuitt.

They can use the 5 year option with shazier which can keep him under contract thru the 2018 season if they choose to do it.......

It's time to cut ties with Mike Mitchel & upgrade the position. Miss too many tackles, cover too little ground, plays too deep which opens up the middle...

With Shazier's injury history and the possibility of Timmons leaving is the reason Vince was signed. I think he's more of a depth signing. I'd be very surprised if they envision Vince as a long term starter. Plus be didn't exactly sign for starter money.
If Timmons goes I look for the Steelers to draft an ILB.

I am just not certain how well Timmons will be able to hold up in pass coverage. Yes, he was stout against the run, but when Tolzien and the like are throwing passes towards him, sans that goal line stand, he has been shown to get beat in coverage.

I like Timmons as any other guy on the team. I am just not sure if he is going to hold up.
