Coates and DHB have both proved they can make basket catches ....By being on the outside that would be their main routes..Or WR screens or jet sweeps as you stated.....

 

How you draft a WR who is not a natural hands catcher is beyond me tbh. And how does a physical freak like that last until the 3rd...questionable hands. But whatever, if the PS decide to keep Martavis next year, Coates will be persona non grata with the emergence of Rogers.

He can make the basket catch, big whoop. Does every pass have to be perfectly placed for him to make a catch. How about demonstrating he can make the catch when it's not perfect because I haven't seen it. Some suggest we throw him some screens, short passes to get his confidence up, but I think that shows your lack of confidence in him. He should be able to catch it on any route he runs.

Flame me all you want, I'm not a fan of this guy.

I'm sure the team has their reasons for still trying to involve Coates in the offense even though he's injured.
Although I was muttering to myself yesterday after watching the Giants-Browns game how JPP caught an interception and returned it for a touchdown, and he's MISSING two fingers. Coates needs to man up!

Big and speedy there is no question. The "receiver" part is the one I question lol. It is my belief that being a "hands catcher" is something that comes naturally. And I believe catching ability is both physical (hand size, coordination, body control, etc) and mental (focus, confidence, desire).

Can he improve his catching ability in the pros? That's a big maybe for me. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt you may ask? Because I don't think he will turn the corner and I'd rather see him develop more before they rely on him to make catches in all situations.

Coates has the highest % on the team. The next closest is DHB at 6.7%

 

I think he going to healthy and heat up this next month. With Green, Bell, Brown, Rogers, and Sammy, there should not be a team that can cover us very easily. I hope we see more play calling like we have seen in the last 2 games. I feel like opposing defenses do not have a clue whats coming. I think that is what led to AB actually getting some one-on-one coverage. I still think we need to use play action more, but other than that i thought the play calling was great.
