I don't believe you can go on stats alone, but dang those numbers are pretty close. Also you can throw in the fact Franco had less games per year than Jerome.

I guess i should have worded it different. I ment that franco did not play a full season or at least the stats I saw showed him playing in only 5 games. I dont know if that is right or not because the rushing numbers match is career totals. I think jerome played in all 16 games his final year that is all i was trying to say

I liked Franco, but I still remember him running out of bounds when he could have powered for some more yards. BUS was THE MAN. He got the yards even when everyone knew he was getting the ball. (Think back to the end of the SB when he got those first downs to beat Seattle). I am going with 1. Bus, 2. Franco, 3. all the rest.

I never saw John Henry Johnson so I had to leave him out.

Franco was more important to his teams that Bettis was to his. And Francos teams had more sucess.

Franco was the better back, and was deservedly a first ballot HOFer. No slam on Bettis, but Franco was better.

I don't know about John Henry Johnson.

Bettis was better than Rocky Bleier, by a mile and a half. Hell, Rashard Mendenhall is probably better than Rocky. Again, so slam on Rocky. But nothing beats being in the right place at the right time.

I completely disagree with this statement. Franco was surrounded by HOF players: Terry, Webby, Stallworth, Swann. Bettis WAS the Steeler offense for several years. Don't get me wrong, I am not slighting Franco, but the statement above is false.

This is a very difficult argument. There are good arguments for each. I have enjoyed so many of our backs, those listed previously and others such as Barry Foster, Bam Morris, Fuamatu Ma'afala and etc. If I had to pick one, it would come down to Franco and Bettis. I think choosing between them is splitting hairs.

Franco and Bettis were more of converted fullbacks type rushers which make them all the more special.
