How could there be 12 men lined up to defend a field goal?

How can no one block a rusher on a punt?

How can you be offsides on a kickoff?

How can AB not see that he is covering up the TE and get flagged?

How can you have a game plan to run up the middle over and over again against the #4 rush defense?

Much of the rest of yesterday's gaffes and penalties could be chalked up to poor execution. We have to live with good Ben and bad Ben - that's the way he is - Hall of Famer one day and Hall of Shamer the next. I guess I am used to that. The D was OK - not stellar, and too many penalties, but probably adequate.

But the game plan and lack of attention to detail and lack of discipline - that's on the coaching staff. And on the preparation for the game (two weeks). Just what goes on at practice during the week? There sure isn't much evidence that anything useful is going on. Particularly on offense. I'd love to know the % of plays that actually work the way they are supposed to. Where are the hot read slants that take advantage of a defense's vulnerabilities? The running plays that target a weakness in the D? Wide open receivers because the D was fooled? How often does Ben's 1st, 2nd, or 3rd option not work? That is evidence of poor planning or poor execution or poor scouting, or just being a poor team.

I sometimes sense a bit of arrogance in our play calling. "We have the best running back in the league - let's show them and run up the middle. Again and again"."Big Ben and Brown are big playmakers - let's show them off and throw bombs". That is the game plan in a nutshell, no matter who the opponent is. (Oops - I forgot the bubble screen to Brown, too). I wonder if that is all they practice during the week, and then try it on Sunday. And teams now scheme against this - stack the box, double Brown, and we are sunk. We have no answer.

We need a new coaching approach. I think we have the talent, and it is being wasted. That is on coaches.

Well said, especially about good ben , bad ben. Why did this team wait till the middle of the fourth quarter to wake up or was that just the result of the Ravens relaxing knowing they had the game won. Piss poor coaching for sure.

Poor execution. I remember seeing dropped balls from: AB, bell, James, Coates, etc. hell for the first 3 quarters I'm not sure we could even evaluate any "game plans".... because I'm pretty sure everything drive was 3 & out.

    Terrible discipline with 13 penalties.

very painful game to watch yesterday. Getting tired of commentators talking about how patient he is every time he runs for 1-2 yard gains and if on 3rd and 4+ the game plan is to run over and over maybe Ben should have been given another week off

Their is no cohesion. Call it what it is, the coaches, the players. The Defense showed some promise, but not enough.
Ben looks disinterested. Going through the motions. His play is below average. And lets not blame the knee. Look at the eagles game, dolphins game. Their is an issue and it's not physical. What does he have left to prove? He will be a HOF. And has been beaten. Maybe he is just tired. Sure seems that way. Guess we will see how he bounces back against a team on the rise.

This is what gets me. TWO WEEKS to prepare. I heard on the radio that players must get 4 days off consecutively but that's no excuse because all teams must live within the CBA rules. But this team looks like we take 11 days off and come back and put a game plan together in 3 days.

Yesterday was bad, but it's not just a Steeler issue, though that's all that some of our fan base wants to see. Fortunes are ebbing and flowing with regularity. Minnesota was 5-0 and looking like world beaters. Now they are looking like a team in disarray. Ditto Philly, which is now in last place in the NFC East. Seattle and Arizona were considered by many to be two of the top 3 or 4 teams in the league, but have struggled offensively. Carolina went from 15-1 to a 1-5 start. Green Bay is floundering.

These are teams that are generally regarded as having top flight coaching.

I'm not saying that Tomlin is a great coach. I personally believe that he's average to good, and some of his in-game decisions drive me nuts. However, he's not a liability either, and I can't see any benefit to blowing things up right now. Who are you going to hire? Bill Bellechick is NOT coming here, and he's the only coach who seems to be immune to having struggles these days. Pretty much every NFL coach has had struggles recently.

    This is parity folks.

Ben doesn't believe in the game plan in these games. Nobody seems to.

We will see about mr tomlin after the dallas game sunday, the truth is they have been using the same game plan for every game this season, so if he thinks dallas's defense wont take bell and AB out of this game, without his coaches adding some new wrinkles, he's very mistaken....

Hard to argue with any of the points made. I will say that the players have to play better.

Biggest prime examples from offense and defense?

David DeCastro and Stephon Tuitt. Whoever is the next option (exclude the Eli Rodgers preseason hype by the way) is even close to either.

You hit on a valid point as far as Arrogance ..I think that is the difference, a great Football Coach always tries to attack a Defense,,Take what thay do great and make it work against them...One simple play would be Trips wide left TE on right and run quick pitch with DD leading..As I watched how the Rats stacked the box and their zone coverage they would have spent 4 guys on the 3 that would have gave us a place to run outside...Simple play block down TE and Tackle leave their tackle see if he can tackle Bell 1 on 1 if he can't you have DD cutting off LB and Bell with 10 yards of space with 1 guy to beat .....

Tomlin. I honestly think they went into the bye week like many fans on here with excuses and saying they didn't have a chance to beat the Patriots. That's a huge problem.

i started to get that vibe over the last few games. Like he has already checked out mentally and doesn't want to play anymore. Just speculation ,hope it's not the case... maybe he's just in a temporary rut

For the record he always plays like crap coming off an injury. Being off the field is not Bens greatest friend. He needs to play in order to maintain his high level play. He had about a quarter maybe half a quarter where he started to look more accurate with his throws. He is hoping he comes back for Dallas

Early in the game, it looked to me like he wasn't comfortable planting firmly and driving through his throws. In my view he wasn't quite ready to play either physically, or in terms of having confidence in what his knee could take. Just my view, but that's what it looked like to me.

Thanks! I hope I'm not coming off as an all-in blind Tomlin supporter, because I do have questions about him, but the irrational crap being slung around the board these past few weeks makes the diaper-wearing astronaut a few years back look stable and rational by comparison...

yes I saw that as well but he maintains physically there were no issues with his knee. I guess he could lie about that but I am not sure why he would

Indeed. Even the "Hoodie" has had his issues even in wins. Parity truly does give a good viewpoint as to how a season can be even if we all do not know how it will end.
