    If you were Kevin Colbert of the Steelers and given one choice of a transcendent player at a single position, which position would you pick and why?

    Here Are The Choices:

    An elite interior defensive lineman who can disrupt and penetrate opposing offensive lines at will?

    An elite linebacker who can defend the pass and run in addition to rushing the passer?

    An elite cornerback who can defend the run and nullify any number one wide receiving threat?

    An elite safety that can negate not only ultra athletic tight ends in addition to negating big pass and rush plays?

    Again, which one would you pick and why?

    my faith is waning on the ability to pick a db from our front office
    unfortunately it appears we still need help there
    sooooooooooooo
    i say
    Des Lawrence
    soo
    i guess i'm saying corner
    ALTHOUGH
    We need dline mos def to fill in for Tuitt n Cam because their workload is sick

    line backer would be nice we're ok

    then safety we're ok

    in that order

    jmo with what we are seeing at this present time

    I would choose safety. I think it is the most important position on defense. if you have a good one, then you have a decent defense. if you have a great one, you have a great defense. troy in his prime. defense great. look at seattle when before Thomas and cancellor got paid.lol

    Donnie shell, who should be in the hof, great defense. and late in his career he carried the defense

    I went LB.
    Our defense has always depended on this.

    to a certain extent I agree and 10 years ago I would completely but now, the way the game is played. I think casey would be a nonfactor. its all about pass rushers and secondary now and I hate it.lol

    Interesting that the votes are relatively evenly spread (at this point).

    I went with safety because I think having an all-rounder back there frees up the LBs a lot. When Troy was in his element, he could fake a blitz or a coverage, and keep the QB guessing. Last season we saw that the safety blitzes started to get nullified fairly easily, and this season we are hardly rushing the safety at all. It's a key position, but you have to have the right guy there to exploit the reach of what it can do.

    Elite corner by a long shot... because they are few and far between. There's a lot of "good" corners in the NFL... but very few "elite" and/or "exceptional" corners, IMHO.

    My choice isn't available... I want a DL Edge rusher (not a coverage Lber who also rushes)

    A true DE edge rusher
    Not a interior DL
    Not a tweener OLB
    A hand in the dirt, explode off the edge, bend the corner, kill the QB, Edge rusher

    I agree fully. I think Dupree could be that type of player. I'm a bit concerned that he's dropped down all the way to 255 lbs, but we'll see what impact that has. Maybe it will help more than it hurts.

    Silly to think just 1 player...

    Kiesel=Elite
    Hampton= All pro
    Smith= vastly underrated

    Woodley=Elite
    Farrior =elite
    Foote= good
    Harrison= all pro

    McFadden=decent
    Clark= really good
    Troy= God mode
    Ike= really good

    Hard to pick just one good player

    Now it's

    Hey ward= elite
    Hargrave=good
    Tuitt= good

    Moats=trash
    Timmons=slow
    Shazier=glass
    Jarvis=Jervis

    Ross=decent
    Mitchell=good
    Ss=who
    Burns/Davis/gay=ok

    The word "Elite" is used so liberally it has reached the status of good to very good.

    Woodley wasn't a average player, made the Pro Bowl put up double digit sacks. I think he has the Steelers record for sacks in the postseason.

    This seems pretty accurate.
    Only thing I'd change is I thought Woodley was pretty good before the injuries started pilling up.
