I'm still bugging about the DeCastro resigning

I'm still a little bothered by the David DeCastro resigning. I thought he got TWICE what I would have paid.
Good Guards are not a precious commodity, you can pick them up pretty easy. Centers too.
It's the Tackles that are hard to find.

The Steelers are going to be cashing in their piggy bank to re-sign AB, and I thought they should have saved some of that cap money they gave DeCastro to re-sign AB.

    To say nothing about Bell.

DeCastro got waaaay to much money.

DeCastro was All-Pro last season, they're trying to win a Super Bowl with their core group. If they lowballed him, he wouldn't have re-signed.

This is going to be a non factor after this season. Pittsburgh will finally have some wiggle room in the cap to not just re-sign players.. but do whatever else they need to.

If you have an all pro guard who can pull either way he is worth every penny you pay him. I think this deal was fair for both sides.

Idk about double, but I think he got more than what he is worth by a little bit. He got owned in philly and has struggled at times (particularly in pass pro) this season.

I'd rather pay Bell 10 mil than DeCastro. However I understand why they did it. We had just lost Beachum and we really couldn't lose another talented OLineman. Foster will be replaced soon, and that much roster turnaround at OL is a tough thing to overcome.

The good news is that it won't be a huge problem because we have the cap room moving forward to sign AB and Bell anyways. It will all be worth it if we get another super bowl

Resigned means something quite different from re-signed

I was like, how did I miss that?

We may already have Fosters replacement in Finney. And we will keep the undrafted and late pick streak going on the left side which is just crazy to me.

There is no way that anyone could convince me that any guard is worth ten million a year, guards are just too easy to come by.

I would have offered him 5 million a year for 5 years, and dared anyone to offer more in FA.

If you ask me Pouncey is way overpaid too. I just don't think Pouncey and DeCastro are all that good. Next game keep and eye on the center of the line as the defense rushes, and you will see that a pocket never seems to form because Pouncey and DeCastro always get pushed.

Too many skill guys are going to need paid soon for the Steelers to be paying Pouncey and DeCastro like that, they are merely average players.

Not really. Guards of the talent that is DeCastro are more difficult to obtain due to the positions many requirements versus the handful of an offensive tackles.

Offensive tackles can operate in space and simply rely on speed and strength. Inside, time is accelerated and space is decreased; a much tougher task.

If guards are so easy to come by then why doesn't every team have a player of DeCastros caliber? He is top 3 in his position. Do you not remember the days of Ben getting killed and having no rushing attack? I mean it wasn't that long ago lol.

Just curious...name 5 right guards...and 5 centers you would rather have than Pouncey and Decastro.....just so I can understand the level of talent you think is out there. There is no right or wrong answer...this is just an opinionated discussion.

I am not sure I would have any of them in my top 10. Some good football players in that list...but not he best at their spot IMO

Right... why have two all-pros when you can pick up Sean Mahan, Justin Hartwig, Darnell Stapleton or Chris Kemoeatu?

Apart from the constant penalties, the weak running game and nearly getting Ben killed on several occasions...

Lots of dead money that was killing our cap in years past is going away. Steelers should be able to sign Brown, Bell and even Timmons if they want.

Okay. There would be teams lining up to pay DeCastro more than 5mil a year. I think 10mil a year is a bit rich because I don't see him as a dominant G, but he is a pretty dang good one. Just because he's had a rough (very inconsistent) start to the year doesn't mean he's a bad player.

You pay for skill sets in the NFL. Interior linemen that can pull with the speed and effectiveness of DD and Pouncey will get paid higher than guys who can't. Neither DD or Pouncey are "average" players. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

If it came down to DD or Bell/AB, I would've let DD walk without a second thought. However we have the cap and can afford it, so why not pay the good players we already have? If we keep this offense together we will have a shot at winning it all the next few years.

    He's worth every penny.

He's had one bad game this season, against Philly, everyone had a bad game against Philly.

We finally have a line good enough to keep Ben clean and people complain they get paid too much

There is no way that I would pay a guard and center that kind of money, 10 mill a year for a guard is too much, I wouldn't give a guard 10 mill a year if his middle name was god.

I think they should have invested in top tier tackles with all that money.

If you think Pouncey and DeCastro are worth that kind of money, what do you think AB and Bell are going to ask for.?

Make it a point to watch Pouncey and DeCastro in a game sometime, you will see why i call them average.
