I think Tax Payers are just itching to cough up another $250,000,000 to replace a less than 20 year old stadium.

All we need is field turf. Natural grass sucks, Rooney's like it because less injuries. I damn sure do not want a domed stadium.

Even though I live on the Carolina coast, I still own a house in the Pittsburgh area. That makes me a tax payer. I don't want to fork out any money for a new stadium.
keeping with the OP. I pay school taxes and people who rent do not. Here in Carolina. Kids have to buy note books, pencils, pens yadda yadda. There in and around Steeltown. Kids get everything free. Because home owners pay for schooling. I never had a kid either

You need a new team. I was serious cash money if you stop talking. Heck I'll even start a go fund it for you to get some real cash if you switch teams. I'll even throw in some scratchers if you do it right now.

For some people, who watched many years and championships from our Steelers at Three River Stadium (yes, there used to play another team that used to be champion... long ago -can you hear me Pirates?), Heinz Field is still a New Stadium.

    Millenary wisdom:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Smart dollars should be invested in many other places/issues rather than a new Stadium (both for the City and the team).

Kind invitation to move on to the next topic!

Having grown up in San Diego, where the Chokers play in a stadium that was opened in 1969 (?), and the owners have wanted a new stadium for YEARS, where most taxpayers are dead set against paying for Spanos' dream stadium, all I can say to you is, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I just wish Heinz Field was more shaped like Three Rivers Stadium so that crowd noise stayed in.

i was thinking about that when they were talking about LA stadium. What is the lifespan of Heinz? It is ~15 years old. I am guessing at least 20 more years?

    This is a troll topic.

Obviously, the OP said the Steelers are the biggest franchise for goodness sakes! When has that ever been true? They've been a small market team for as long as I can remember!

Then he refers to the stadium as nothing more than a college stadium? Really? Which college and what kind of amenities are at those huge college stadiums? What's considered a "High-end" stadium? WiFi? Large screens? Heated seats? Swimming pool? Luxury Boxes?

Also, note no response to the post. (nice avatar though) Probably chuckling to himself in a corner going:

Obviously, he has never been to Heinz Field. I've been to several stadiums and Heinz is better than them all. The Great Hall alone makes all others pale in comparison.

If he thinks that they would actually build another one within the next 20 years then he will be very disappointed. Heinz is going to be around for quite some time to come and that's a good thing.

I am afraid the tax payers in the State of Pa and Allegheny county don't agree with your statement. Aren't you people
tired of paying for Billionaires play toys? Corporate welfare?

PGH will have to come up with a lot more hotel space/rooms before they could
ever even think of holding a Superbowl here in the Steel city. Its not about Heinz Field.

I was under the impression that with the hotels currently and the ones by the airport that was sufficient. Then again, I don't actually live in the city so I wouldn't know for certain, only on what I've read elsewhere.
It's kind of a moot point really though. Aside from Met Life Stadium, I don't really see them ever having a cold weather Super Bowl. And probably the only reason they even did it that time is because of where it is.

There will probably be cold weather SB's in domeless stadiums every 5 years or so. Or at least until its a disaster, the NY SB went very well and game time temps was like 50 degrees IIRC.

They still go to cold weather sites with domed stadiums, Minnesota is hosting in 2018, the dome doesn't cover the entire city, a big snowstorm will still cripple travel/transportation which is the biggest worry with cold weather sites.

For what it is worth, the demise of 3 Rivers was the infrastructure and particularly the sewer and water lines. They were corroded and plumbing started to back up during games. Since it was all encased in concrete, it could not be replaced. If you walk around Heinz Field and look up, you will notice they did not make that mistake again. All of that is exposed and easily replaced or repaired. Beaver stadium is similar to Heinz Field and it has been holding up since 1960, 57 years. I think 20 more years at Heinz Field is easy.

Because there were never any problems with the Dallas or Minnesota stadiums.

Just to add they've gotten really smart about sight lines and viewing experience.

Some of the seats at TRS were terrible! I did love the bouncing bleacher effect. That was cool as hell to watch.

Watched a preseason game at FedEx in Landover and we had crappy seats. Literally, couldn't see the kicks or the punts. Long passes as well, disappeared because of the upper level. We went back for a Monday Night game but had much better seats and had a blast.

TRS was awesome to watch football games in unless you had an obstructed view which many seats did, The place rocked like no other and the vibe was incredible. For baseball games it stunk and for concerts it was even worse.

Sure, Heinz doesn't keep the crowd noise in quite as well but it is a much different crowd these days from those in TRS. Now, you have people sitting in high dollar seats that won't get off their cell phones and couldn't care less about going to a bad weather game no matter the teams record.

I watched a baseball game on TV the other day from PNC Park and saw two guys sitting right behind home plate in the most expensive seats in the stadium that didn't pay one bit of attention to the game until about the seventh inning when apparently their cell phone batteries died. Shortly thereafter they left. That's the society that we live in these days. They were obviously buddies but didn't even speak to one another not even once. I pointed it out to my wife while watching TV. Go out to dinner anywhere and all families do the same thing. Mom, Dad and kids all engaged in their little cell phone world. Not everyone, but a vast majority of society. Sorry for my rant but my point being, you could dome Heinz field tomorrow and it still won't ever be as loud and engaged with fan enthusiasm as TRS was back in it's heyday.

Exactly. I sit in club seats and half the people around me got their tickets from some company and don't seem to care. I was sitting in my seat, in the pouring rain from introductions to final. Half the people around me watched the game on tv up inside. Boo hiss.

I think you need to do your homework when it comes to hosting Superbowls and what will/would be required. Our little metro
area has a long way to go to compete with other cities capable of handling Superbowls.

Yup, when some of those recent cities had to bring in cruise ships so they had the required amount of rooms, it tells you what Pittsburgh would need.
