Why in the world would you not like a guy like Todd Haley running the STEELERS' offense? He is a Pittsburgh guy through and through. He's got black and gold blood flowing through his veins. He was raised around the Steelers of the 70s and some of his earliest memories are hanging out with some of those all-time great Steeler players. Here are some other reasons to love Haley:

    1) He hates the Patriots and anything associated with that organization. Case in point, he refused to shake Josh McDaniels' hand after a game in 2010.
    2) He hates the Patriots and anything associated with that organization. Case in point, he absolutely loathes the nutjob Scott Peoli, who came from the Patsies.
    3) He hates the Ravens and anything associated with that organization. He accused the Ravens of running up the score in a 2011 playoff game. Bet he can't wait to return the favor with Ben and the boys. And of course the Ravens were the old Cleveland Browns, a huge rival of the Steelers while he was growing up in the Burgh.
    4) He hates the Cleveland Browns (refer to no. 3).
    5) His dad, Dick Haley, was the Steelers player personnel director from 1971 to 1990. He helped to mold the franchise into the dynasty that it was in the 70s and had a great deal to do with scouting and bringing largely unheralded players like John Stallworth, Donnie Shell, Mike Wagner and many others to the Steelers, not to menion all of the other HOFers of the 70s, Swann, Harris, Lambert, Webster, etc. His service to the Steelers organization is immeasurable.
    6) When his KC Chiefs got off to such a rocky start in 2011 losing big in their first two games, he cited the 1989 Steelers as an example of how you can lose big your first two games and come back to make the playoffs, which the Steelers did. Were it not for several big injuries, most notably to Matt Cassell, the Chiefs had a very good shot of making the playoffs in 2011. But when you find yourself with Tyler Palko as your starter...'nuff said.

In summary, this guy is a Steeler through and through. He's probably more Steeler than any player or coach currently on the staff. He's got that hardshell, blue collar Pittsburgh mentality and doesn't mind getting in your face from time to time if you're slacking. What's not to like about this guy? He's everything Pittsburgh and I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm that he'll bring to the sidelines in the years to come.

We got the Bill Cowher energy back onto the sidelines, when things are going good our players will feed off this guy. Instead of a little tap on the head, with a golf clap to follow, after a TD. Todd will be out there firing them up for the next one.

Now he has the weapons to get back at the teams who beat him up in KC. So maybe he''ll be coming in here with a chip on his shoulder.

I liked your post, and I agree with it overall, but I think this is extremely insulting and condescending to everyone on the Steelers roster and staff. I get the point you were trying to make, and I get what's behind it, but you're way off to say that.

The guy has Pittsburgh roots and has a soft spot for the team, and has a "tough" reputation, but let's let him at least put on a Steelers hoodie before saying he's more Steeler than Hines Ward, Dick LeBeau, James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller... I could go on and on and on...

I hear you, Snack, and I probably did overstate it a bit. What I was referring to was the fact that this guy, unlike any other player or coach on the team, grew up around the greatest dynasty in NFL history. Haley and I are about the same age and I can't imagine how it must have been going down to Three Rivers with his dad and getting to talk to Bradshaw, Greene, Swanny and Stalls, Lambert, Noll back when the B&G dominated the NFL world. From that respect, he has deeper Steeler roots than anybody currently with the Steelers.

i just can't get over all the thinking he's the next coming, before he's done anything. he's never won anything unlike most guys here and coaches. let's see what he's got before we make him out as something he's never been yet. we've had other OC's come in here and bomb. we are giving him all the proven tools to work with that any coach could want, let's see what he does with it first.

    Not the Rooneys!

I hear you. He might be more Steeler than Troy Smith, but in my eyes he'll need to put in some time before passing anyone who has been a Steeler for any amount of time, even guys like Redman and Heyward.

Because there is loyalty and there is stupidity. What was the job offer in Dallas? What was the offer in Pittsburgh? What outside factors were involved such as moving a family, money, job opportunity for spouse? What were the possibilites for advancement? Maybe it is a case of wanting to be his own man and not to be seen as be given a job because his Dad worked for the team. Like it or not sometimes you have to make a business decision that goes against where your heart might be such as taking a job with the Cowboys because it is a better fit in that moment in time.

Loyalty is a great thing, mine will never waiver in this franchise but if I am putting together a team no way in H E double hockey sticks am I picking all Steelers because as much as we as fan make of some of these players the reality is sometimes they aren't as good as we think they are. Same goes with coaches.

Where did I paint him as Mr. loyal Steeler? My point was that he has deep Pittsburgh roots. Can you dispute that his Pittsburgh roots run deeper than anybody's on the coaching staff or any player on the team? For crying out loud he grew up in Upper St. Clair and was raised around the Steeler dynasty of the 70s. His dad was an integral part of the organization for a couple of decades. That's all I'm saying. If he has an opportunity to make a career move that will benefit him and his family I'm sure he'll take it. Can you blame him?

Totally off topic but I feel like this when ever anyone claims that without Ben they never win another SB. It is like basically saying you guys all stink and without Ben you might as well be the Chicago Cubs.

Dang it thorn I LOVE the Cubs. But yeah they don't have a good track record. However based on the law of averages shouldn't we be due one just any day now?

I agree. We have an awesome defense, set of wide receivers, running backs... But it would still be very, very hard to win the Super Bowl without a tip-top passing game. I wouldn't say that we can't win without Ben, but I might say we can't win without a good QB. It's possible, but not likely. With a good QB we actually have an extemely good chance of winning, compared to other teams. Without one it's ugly. Could we win one without Ben? Sure. Could we win one with Leftwich? Uhh... I really, really hope we never have to find out.

It troubles me that there are already Todd Haley "haters"... and he hasn't called a single bubble screen yet.

Only time will tell, we shall see. He has to get #7 on board,
this maybe a problem? Ben has had free reins for sometime,
Haley neeeds to convince #7 that he is only trying to make him a better player.

So far from what I can see on this board is the hate and negativity against BA has rubbed off onto some people. Whether the Haley haters are trolls or just consumed by the OC hate it doesn't really matter. This guy hasn't called a single play for the Steelers yet. He might have a track record else where however I see it as more of positive than negative. He was able to have solid offenses on 2 different teams, especially bringing the lowly chiefs from the gutter. My opinion on him is lets give him a shot and see what he can do.

Winning cures all Jack. If Haley does that, then the hate will go away. I don't like Haley, don't like how he operates, don't like his temper tantrums but if he wins us a bunch of games and even better, wins us some SB's then it's all good

Just a point of order. Haley has been to only 1 less Super Bowl as offensive coordinator then BA has.
