3 main reasons that DHB made the roster ...#1 He is our best blocking WR, he helps in both the running game and on screens as well as blocking down field after the catch ... #2 He has great speed this creates more space for the other guys to work in, I see Safeties shade towards DHB and play a step or 2 deeper on the side DHB is on all the time...That's the extra space 2 yards more towards his side and 2 yards deeper is a ton of space in Football his speed creates that ...#3 He is a Vet and knows all the spots, his OC called him a Joker and stated he could use him at any of the spots and he knows what to do.....

His ST'S play is just a added bonus ...Another bonus is he is a great locker room guy and helps Haley Coach and Teach the young guys...1 last bonus he is a true Team player there is only 1 Football and he plays hard regardless of if he gets targeted or not..WR'S can be a fickle group and too many throw me the ball guys can mess up a good thing ....

I hope this helps answer why he is on the Team...He is not on the Team for stats , but for all the things above..If you only look at the stats you are missing the real value he brings to the Team...

My questions is considering Ayer or Hamilton stud WRs. DHB is better than both of them all the way around. Ben likes DHB a lot and he played well when called upon last year.

Careful, our gracious host plays fantasy football, plus, one mean bat wielding individual plays as well. Mailboxes still tremble in fear.

Yeah but I don't lump the guys here in to the category of the "fanboys" that I'm talking about who have no clue about the actual game or the "non-skill" players and only play fantasy. I'm talking about the guys that don't even actually watch football but just play fantasy and think that it means they know something about actual football. They don't. At least the ones I know personally don't. I'll put it this way. I know this guy that plays fantasy who told me that Josh Dobbs is an NFL ready qb. Yeah. Right.

Nobody would believe it but I actually even considered playing fantasy on here because I know the people on here are actually devoted football fans. I still just can't bring myself to do it though. What I AM gonna do though is pick a certain poster's team and be their number one fan and talk smack about them all year. I'm gonna put the "FAN" in fantasy. Get it? Also I like to make fun of my buddies at work that are devoted fantasy players and I'm like "You realize that I don't care about your fake football team, right? I mean if I start talking to you about Dungeons and Dragons are you gonna be all interested in what I'm saying?" I always talk in this nerdy voice and I say "Oh man over the weekend my Warlock totally pwnd a mage and everyone had written my Warlock off but I suddenly got a Critical Hit and did Double Damage with it by raising my dexterity!" One day my buddy goes "I never thought about it that way but I can totally see what you're saying". LOL!!!

Maybe I'm old school, but my fantasy league has more to do with twins than football.

First, I dont play fantasy football. On your first point, blocking is a coachable skill set and Ayers and Hamilton could surely be coached to be proficient enough. The blocking ability of DHB isnt something anyone is tuning in for. Second, both Ayers and Hamilton have speed and would not be left to be covered by a LB. If that happens, total mismatch and Ben would exploit that greatly. Third, DHB is a vet who simply only has experience on his side, give Ayers and Hamilton the experience and they could surpass DHB. Lastly, a point you havent made but coincidentally left out is that DHB has the same type of hands as Dwight Stone, AKA hands of....I am looking at the skills that are usable now and see Ayers and Hamilton as being a more productive asset than DHB. You are entitled to your opinion but please dont think I am not entitled to mine. I have been watching and coaching this game probably longer than you have been alive.

Cool. Mike Tomlin, Richard Mann, and Kevin Colbert disagree with you.

Bottom line: Your #5 WR needs to all the things DHB does well. /end

really, your comeback to support your stance is that the coaches and the organization disagree with me? Isnt the purpose of this discussion based on the decisions they made and are ones that we "fans" disagree with? Your stance debunks any conversation on this board, so we may as well just shut this site down since there isnt a point in discussing or disagreeing with the "organization"!!!

i do think there will be a place for hamilton and possibly ayers at some point. maybe not even this year but we will see. i think hamilton with a year under richard mann could make some strides to put him over the top as being a legit wr. he has decent hands and size. DHB is a good blocker i will give him that and it was a point for our receivers to become better blockers for the run game. thats a big part of why mann was brought here. that and to teach our receivers to become more complete. i could see in the near future, rogers, AB, coates, hamilton and bryant by next season. ayers possibly kept for ST's and punt return duties. i believe when bryant returns and DHB gets a year older we could see hamilton make a charge at DHB's spot and wheaton let go in free agency. ayres will still have PS eligibility.

"Fans" would serve themselves better by trying to understand "why" Tomlin or the organization are doing something they disagree with. Especially when said fans display low information POVs like "blocking is something we can just coach someone to do as good as DHB". Or ignoring the role of a #5 WR as something anyone can just be coached up for (know the entire playbook to sub for breather/injury, play multiple special teams units, etc.

If someone demonstrates a grasp of the game, I'd be interested in their disagreements with Tomlin/org. But when you start off with a generally indefensible argument, the counter is simply "you're wrong".

You're argument was nothing more than "hey anyone can do those things with coaching", which essentially makes the players abilities irrelvant

DHB is a better #5, younger / inexperienced players are better served developing on the PS.

Nah. You have it wrong. It's the other way around. Coaches should be on HERE looking for advice. Then they'd know Bruce Arians is a terrible coach, Dennis Dixon is the future at quarterback, Limas Sweed needs one more shot, Larry Foote and William Gay are garbage, Eli Rogers should be riding the bench, and we need to sign Steven Jackson pronto.

Not for nothing but its very rare to see whats happening with Eli. He saw something like 40 snaps Sunday. Whens the last time we saw a receiver do that from day 1?

I was holding my breath every time the ball went to him. His inexperience could have easily turned into a pick 6 on Monday night. This trial by fire is risky, hopefully they don't get burned. Monday they didn't. Somebody needs to tell him not to hold the ball like a loaf of bread either.

In fairness I don't think anyone said Rogers should be riding the bench. I think some were thinking he'd play, just that he'd get worked in a little slower.
But I agree with your post.
