This will be Timmons last season as a Steeler.

He didn't play awful but he had too many missed tackles. He was taken off the field on 3rd and long sub packages. The Team won't extend him beyond this year this season.

I like Timmons but honestly his play is falling off and with Fort, Williams and Dirty red behind him he needs to pick it up if he wants to stay beyond this year.

A great player , but has lost a step and it shows, he will not be resigned, he might even retire..

I would like to have kept Spence for a coverage guy so when Timmons was gases or losing a step he could spell him.

This is why they made that deal with Vince Williams, who will be starting in Timmons spot in 2017.

I still think Timmons is a beast. The only time I thought he looked totally out of it was when he ended up on Desean Jackson...which no LB should ever be asked to cover...not even Shazier who might be faster but not as shifty

It was Patrick Willis and Timmons IMO .... Willis is gone, and there are some young lions coming up the ranks....but for today..I think Timmons had an off game and nothing more.

On the d. Jackson play it was definitely a mismatch.... Even Timmons still misplayed it. Timmons was still dropping back, moving backward as Jackson crossed in front of and past him. He was a total and complete non factor on that play. A physical mismatch and mental error is a devastating combo.

It was one game. Can't tell the trend (up, down, or sideways) from one data point.
Wasn't it a year or two ago where Timmons threw up during every game at the start of the season? Maybe he needs a few games to get in the right shape. (Hopefully the turf toe from last year is ancient history.)

Dude he looked slow... Harrison looked like he was quicker.

Unless he plays into shape during the season he will probably be picked on in games. If it doesn't get better he might be replaced by Vince mid season.

Timmons is still faster and more athletic than Farrior/Foote, and we used them for many successful years. Timmons is very good at covering the middle and run stopping, typically what you want in ILBs. Shazier is faster and all, but he is also injured a lot. Timmons is very durable. I think Golden had some nice tackles in this game and I don't want to pin the blame on him, but I think the issue that makes Timmons look bad in coverage is that he never seems to get safety help, which was almost always happening when we had the likes of Polamalu/Clark. I think we have a lack of talent at the safety position and that puts a lot more strain on the ILBs. Shazier even had a few bad coverages last night.

I think this is Timmons last hurrah as a Steeler as well. But, in fairness he has been here since 2007. Playing linebacker in this league for 9 years is pretty good. With Vince Williams signed. I would expect another 1st or 2nd round pick in the draft next year will be spend on an ILB.

I'm hoping Hack is right and that this game was just an outlier because he was pretty bad today. Several missed tackles and ge just didn't look as fast.

I do agree with OP, not re-signing Timmons probaby points to this being his last season. He has been a warrior since '07.

Timmons looked huge out there. Maybe he should've taken a page out of Farriors book ...as he got older....he began to train in fla. Loss weight to pick up speed

Yes, he's been mr consistent for quite a few years now. He should have had a couple more probowls imho. He is what, 8 years younger than Deebo yet has probably played more defensive snaps in their respective careers.

The Late rushing TD the skins had, Timmons totally whiffed on that tackle that would have negated that score. Two years ago Timmons would have nailed him.

I think on steeler friendly terms, LT can be quality depth next year. That is if he doesn't fall completely off the cliff.

Since his time here there has been people picking him apart, he has always been the kind of player who missed a tackle here and there. With all that said he has been the one steady the whole time our defense took a step backwards. I think the writing is on the wall and this will be his last year, has he lost a step maybe but his is still pretty damn good. I think the signing of Williams, the play of Fort and the decision to keep Matakevich on the 53 man roster tells me they are getting ready to replace Timmons next year.

Vince Williams is a solid player, but I would be very surprised if anybody on the Steelers coaching staff has full confidence he'll takeover the role as a starter next year. He's great against the run but very sub-par in coverage. This is his 4th season in the league and the only time he assumed the role as a "starter" was during his rookie campaign in 2013 after Farrior retired and all other ILB's were injured. Sean Spence was actually supposed to be the starter that season.

If the coaching staff had as much confidence in Williams as you all seem to, we wouldn't have drafted an inside linebacker in the first round in 2014.

It seems the last few years Timmons has got off to a slow start. I remember him catching some heat for taking an awful angle at a scrambling Peyton Manning in a season opener a few years back. Then he was out there hurling against Balt a couple years back, still makes me lol.The fact he's only played in one pro bowl is a joke. The guy can just flat out lay the wood. He's been pure class his whole career. If it is his last year here is like to see him go out with another ring.

Timmons led the defense in tackles with 8, he may have missed a couple of tackles but I guess the whole defense missed some too or they would have had more tackles than he did, timmons said it's not about money any more for him, so he will be resigned for a lot less money as a back up and will be on the team next year as a back up they can keep him fresh....

A middle LB'er is going to get tackles regardless of whether they have lost a step or not. That's not a good way to judge a players performance. Timmons is noticeably slower, which isn't shocking as plenty of players before him have lost a step around the same time in their careers. It doesn't mean the guy can't play, but the Steelers need to protect him a bit. Give him assignments he can succeed at. Unfortunately our coaches aren't really doing that. Putting him on Desean Jackson and Jordan Reed is just setting him up for failure. He can't cover those guys. This is nothing new though. Does anyone remember the Oakland game last year? Timmons game up 2 TD's I believe, one of which was the game tying TD to Crabtree. I believe the other WR was Seth Roberts, which is a speed guy. Timmons was expected to cover both those guys, which he cannot do and the coaches should know better. I remember watching that game with a friend who is a Raiders fan and I was screaming at the TV that Timmons is not capable of that assignment. That's not on Timmons, that's on the coaches.

Timmons is what he is, a solid middle linebacker who doesn't have the speed to be covering WR's or the new type of hybrid TE like Jordan Reed. He's a thumper that needs to somewhat protected. Do that and Timmons will be fine for us this year, but we do need to look for his replacement, because he's missing more and more tackles in the middle of the field.

Timmons has only started for this is his eighth year 10 total, a little early for him to be losing a step when we had Farrior playing for 15 years and Foote playing for 13 years into their late 30s, this season will tell his epitaph, but in his short career his stats are very respectable, and I have to say I saw a lot of missed arm tackles monday night especially when the defense tired out in the second half....

There is not someone currently on the roster that is better than Timmons, so unless they draft his replacement in the 1st round...if they bring him back..he is still the starter. IMO Timmons will start in Pitt or somewhere else next year. Prob NE. LOL

he still has 938 tackles in those seasons not counting preseason and practice. that's a lot of wear and tear on a guy that's not been off the field much in that time. it takes it's toll on the human body.

He will probably have his best season as a pro there too. LOL! Honestly, though, I don't think he would be able to go there. Hasn't it been said in Pittsburgh that he's not really a "student of the game" and even Vince Williams was calling the signals as a rookie because Timmons has just never been able to handle that responsibility? So I'd say him going to NE would be tough because they're pretty demanding on knowing all the ins and outs of things. I would rather see him there than say Baltimore or Cincy though!

I've never been a Timmons fan. He's reliable and solid but nothing special. Got to give him some more games. Could have just been a bad day.
