Alright... here we go... final winners and losers from the preseason. As always... in order from greatest to least.

    Winners:

    Artie Burns:

It may have been one game and he is still learning... but when it came to coverage... he looked impressive. Stayed on his man well in man coverage and maintained solid depth in zone and even read some plays; nearly picking off one. Was active in the run support; something that really caught my attention and overall put him on the top of the list. While he may not start right away.. I do expect him to get snaps sooner rather than later.

    Sean Davis:

His natural spot being a safety and you saw why tonight. Showcased some great range and laying some nice hits; his special teams play icing on the top. Superb depth with his zones; something seldom seen with rookies. Unlike Burns however, Davis will contribute more than likely game 1.

    Javon Hargrave:

Ending the "Holy Trinity of the Big Three", Hargrave really needs to be considered to start given the fact that Ricardo Matthews is injured currently. Still generating high amounts of pressure and improved on his ability to absorb multiple blockers as the game wore on.

    BJ Finney:

Who knows how long Cody Wallace will be out. At this point... not worried. BJ Finney is now a roster lock and should Pouncey go down yet again.. Finney is a rock solid insurance policy to have. Outside of a small blip in not increasing his urgency on the second level.

    Tyler Matakevich:

If he gets placed on the waiver wire... someone will pick him up. No offense to Alex Koroza of SteelesDepot.. but this cat this simply too talented and too rare a player to walk away; 17% of seventh rounders getting poached or not. He definitely had some of those rookie moments.. but for the most part.. was essentially another day at the office. Things like football IQ and instincts are exceptionally rare and seldom for someone like "Dirty Red".

    LT Walton:

Much like Cody Wallace.. not too sure about Ricardo and his injury .. but if he is gone for a bit... LT has grown considerably from last season. Holds the point of attack much better and his pass rushing skills are steadily improving.

    Anthony Chickillo:

Pass rushing and edge setting abilities have improved vastly since the Eagles game. Was constantly generating pressure. Just needs to harness that dip rip move as he does have the twitch to do so.

    Daryl Richardson:

Should have done a better job selling the block but outside of that.. he was the only other bright spot on the team. Exceptional burst when reaching the second level When Le'Veon comes back... it will be interesting to see who will have the third running back spot between him and Fitz.

    Eli Rodgers:

Stated his case as the slot option and may have very well have it locked up if Pittsburgh is going to use Wheaton on the outside. Even in limited action and only 59 total passing yards.. Eli was a big part of it.

    Cobi Hamilton:

Got more open and even drew a penalty. Making nice catches as well throughout the game.. Cobi is a lock for the practice squad.

    Losers:

    Doran Grant:

It was a matter of time before Gabriel signed his bell... and it was at the hands of a rookie. With Artie's arrival, continued lapses in coverage, and his chances of even being a safety all but gone now that Dangerfield has that spot locked up.. this is more than likely his last game as a Steeler. Either way Doran.. thank you for your service.. you will be missed..

    DeMarcus Ayers:

Fumbling and not calling out the fair catch are not something you want to happen; when you are a rookie trying to make the roster no less. He may be a practice squad lock.. but don not hold your breath..

    Xaiver Grimble:

Paul Lang not playing and Green still nursing.... whatever.. ensures that he stays on the roster. However.. if and when Green returns.... good bye.

    Cameron Stingly:

You fumble on the first snap you are given... just..

Coverage Team: Allowing over 14 yards per punt on 4 separate with a long of 24?

    Pass Protection (or lack thereof):

I sadly have zero accounts of official preseason stats... but 59 passing yards? That has to be either the lowest in NFL history or one of.

The main losers were anyone trying to make the team on offense. Putting in Renner that early basically destroyed any chance of them getting a chance to shine.

He was awful, plus he's a lock for a cut now we have Mettenberger. They could have left LJ in there a little longer...

I disagree with Hargrave being in the winner list. He was getting pushed around by their second string center. They were gashing us up the middle. He seemed to get zero push against the run from what I saw last night.

Javon was getting beat initially.. but settled down afterwards. It was at the end of the first quarter that we saw it. Keep in mind also that, his job is to command double teams... so it is more on the interior linebackers to make the plays behind him as he can only hold the POA for so long.

Am I the only person not impressed with Cobi Hamilton? He's been given a lot of playing time, but looks distinctly average every time. Am I being unfair?

Didn't see the game but can't imagine how bad Grant would have to play to not make the team. He's had a good camp and preseason.

I'm not super impressed with him either. To me with Bengals being the way they are at WR if there was anything there they wouldn't let him go.

Time to move on to the Meat and Potatoes.

Just hope that Matakevich makes the cut.

    Time for some real football...

Still not sure what you're gloating about?
Rogers hasn't played a down in regular season game.
He will though, how much is yet to be determined.

You're an impossible person to have a conversation with.

It was fun watching RPO set you straight through.

    *sigh...

Guys... at this point... I am glad some players made it to the final 53 (some journeys less audacious than others) but can we put this nonsense to rest? Who really cares if player A will start or if player B will beat the odds? The best 53 will belong on the roster; our personal desires being non factors.
