I liked Mettenberger as the QB for the Titans. IIRC he doesn't have an accurate deep ball though

Love it. Great pick up. I liked him coming out of college and thought he was among the better QB's that draft. Only reason I feel he went so low was due to off field issues.

    Nice move, Steelers :applaud:

I really think he shoves Landry out the door should we hold on to him next season. I think he has a lot of potential if he's coached up right especially with our weapons. I honestly believe we'd love what we see from him had he shown up here a couple years ago and been in our system.

Another rookie with potential thrown into the mix on a lousy team too soon.

It makes you wonder why a young QB with a good arm keeps getting cut, decent pickup bye Gradkowski and Renner.

Unstable head quarters and thrown at the wolves too soon. Hope he isn't too damaged

I don't doubt you, as you're very well informed, but I didn't see that in the article I read so I was just wondering what you are basing this on?

Steelers PR dept. said he wouldn't join the team until after they return from Carolina.

I dont think so. Had nothing to work with. Now he can learn from Ben, he's basically a poor mans Roethlisberger.

Really like this pickup a lot. When I watched him play in Tenn he showed potential but the talent around him was....lacking. He has better skills than Jones does but Jones knows the system so he's the clear #2. If Mettenberger is a quick study he could move up this season.

Lets just not have to worry about who is #2 this year.

I like the move. I'm reasonably ok with LJ at 2. But I wanted us to sign Mettenberger the other year. So this is all good.

Good move, now when the Steelers draft the heir apparent for Ben next year, we can all say bye to Landry Jones.

Is there still a possibility for Grad to be released with an injury settlement that takes some of his money off the books, or is it a done deal that his full salary stays on the books?

Good, now all that's needed is a decent QB coach. ;)

They had a prospect. Unfortunately he broke his thumb. Like said a decent pick up just for insurance although could be next years #2.

As far as the Landry Jones hating, what's to like? Here's is to an injury free season for Ben!

Technically it's a possibility. Theoretically they could reach an injury settlement, but it's not likely in this case IMO.

if we can keep LJ, met and ben in place we have a very stable situation at QB for a couple of more years and won't have to force a draft pick. that gives us 3 guys capable of winning games with the talent around here. we will be needing an OLB next year in the draft. i don't think its quite time for bens replacement yet. at least not with these two behind him the next couple of years.

Good opportunity for Mettenberger. With this offense, he can be the next Batch or Leftwich...possibly better. Hope he lasts as long as Batch did... and hope he's more durable than Leftwich and Gradkowski.

Landry Jones would be an idiot to sign with another team. He needs a good, 3-4 year, cap-friendly backup QB contract with Steelers after this year.

I think it's hard to imagine. That he will be ahead of Landry not knowing the playbook etc. I expect him to make the 53 man roster, but be inactive on game days. If Ben were to get hurt. I think they turn to Jones but if he struggles they go to Mettenberger. I do not believe that Mettenberger is practice squad eligible.

Like this quite a bit actually. I almost started a thread saying we should pick him up... but I didn't want to be 'that' guy.

Wasn't he hurt prior to the draft? It was either in the bowl game or last game at LSU or something. That impacted his stock a bunch if I remember correctly. To think he then started as a rookie due to be forced into the lineup...crazy. He is going to need some time and teaching.

Yep. That's exactly what he was drafted for.

You all are too excited over this guy, he went 0-10 with the titans, Bercovici a UDFA QB beat him out in the chargers camp, yeah, whisenhunt the coach that drafted him in the 6th round at the Titans thought he would bring him in to camp for another look but saw the same old mettenberger and cut him on the first cut, if he is eligible for PS thats where he needs to go to learn our system, maybe he can get coached up to quit fumbling the ball and throwing more picks than TDs, nothing here to impress me, he is still raw as hamburger and unlikely to threaten anyone for their roster spot...

I'm not saying he is the next Ben or even a starter in the league but to blast him for 0-10 when he played on such a poor team may be an overreaction. That team is 5-27 over the last 2 years. I'm not sure who the starter is matters. That TEAM sucks.
