The NFL is only doing this for two reasons..


1.) Save face via exoneration of those who were accused.


2.) Showcase some of the authority it has over decisions like these



Neither worked out at all. If anything, the first point has already got Goodell and the NFL committee in hot water before ( a la Ray Rice) and the 2 point is essentially pouring molten lava over nitro glycerin.



To end this, 2021 is going to be extremely telling and will be a defining cog in Goodell's legacy as Article 46 is set to expire. If he cannot come to compromise... nevermind the college level.. but the high school level of talent is going to look down far more considerably on the game than they already do..

 

This is Goodell's way to exonerate his employees; a continued cycle of the "false-consensus effect" by NFL officials and Goodell himself.


For Goodell, this is not about exoneration... but more publicity to ensure he is seen as the "good guy" and showcasing gusto.
