According to Schefter, the Steelers are restructuring AB. I would imagine it's similar to last year where he gets a few million in spending money up front.

Thst being stated... this all but confirms that DeCastro's deal will have to be placed on hold.

Oakland Raiders.... still finding ways to be a thorn in Pittsburghs side even after the collapse of the rivalry in the 70s haha.

Decastro will get his deal. But you have to admit that this was another great move by the mastermind Omar

You want them to give him QB money? I don't see it happening, Steelers don't do that. Plus, they keep giving him advances on next years money. He playing for free next year?

"a few million in spending money"

A phrase I commonly use myself at the ATM. ;)

When you have a player like this you break standard protocols.

Actually his 4 mill advance has no effect on signing DD, this report states his cap hit for 2016 has decreased by 487K:

Ballpark $7.5 Mil. This restructure didn't increase Brown's cap hit for this year. It likely reduced it by ~$450K.

Restructures dont count against the cap, they only count against the players contract, so lets say they had 7 million under the cap before they paid AB this signing bonus, they are still 7 million under the cap...

No. He will be playing for lots of money on a new contract lol He's going to be he highest paid WR in the league and he deserves it.

Id be absolutely floored if we don't work something out with AB. You don't just let talent like that walk.

He might get paid QB money, not elite QB money. He needs to be paid as top player at his position which he is not. He also won't be working next year for free. AB at his current contract was the 18th highest paid WR. How would you like it at your work place if you were the 18th highest paid person but yet your the top producer? I don't think you would be thrilled. Keep him happy, get him a new contract next year. It won't be nice or easy, and Steelers will have to let some players walk, you can't keep everybody. That's just how it works.

Actually, restructures do affect the cap - usually in a good way for the current year, and in a bad way for future years. They spread the current year salary that has been converted to a bonus over multiple years for cap purposes.

Be careful what you wish for - this is what Pat fans were screaming for a few years ago about their tight end!

Trust me, I get all that but with that said. They also took a risk on him and gave him Top 15-20 WR money when he wasn't even proven. He could have been Cortez Allen and laughing to the bank for doing absolutely nothing. AB gladly took the contract. Look at Wallace.. Leave and you won't have a QB like Ben forcing you the ball, putting up stats, and get 1 big contract and be done. He could make more over the time and retiring life long Steeler. Make him honor his contract then franchise tag him.

They took a risk on him and it paid off freaking big time! He doesn't owe us anything for signing him while he was unproven (other than his absolute best effort, and we sure as hell got that). Franchise tag is the absolute worst thing we could do to AB. It's great for guys that won't be getting that caliber of money in FA, but AB is a star and he will. More and more stars will be going the Von Miller route with their franchise tag situations. Refuse to sign and drive up the price.

We came to a perfect compromise with AB. We didn't give in to signing him before we normally do, but he got advances in his money each year with the presumption that he will get a brand new deal with one year remaining (and it's gonna be BIG!). We handled the situation really well, and really, so did AB.

It doesn't really pay off if you keep advancing money and don't make him honor his contract. So he honored his contract and played beyond it what, 1 year? That's not really a pay off considering he could have been Cortez Allen. I say make him honor it and tag him because I've already came to the realization he's not giving no hometown discounts or resigning with the Steelers. Mr Business is Boomin and looking at who is agent is. He's gone. He's going to want Calvin Johnson, 100+ million. WR are expendable, injuries can happen at any time, etc. As much as I like AB, I wouldn't want them to give him that type of money. Also, I can tell he would rather go the Wallace route and get the big check from the Dolphins then looking at the big picture. He's from and already got the mansion in Miami. He's gone, we just need to accept it.
