No need to move any money to extend him.

Can his coverage skills be restructured into something more team friendly too?

    Maybe to extend AB?
They're making room to do something?

I could see them extending AB, but they need to make it a long term deal, I think a 6 year contract would make it a cap friendly deal, for example, 6 years at 75 million, a 20 million signing bonus prorated for 6 years is 3.33 million, leaving 55 mill in salary, they can pay him 7 mill a year in salary for the first 3 years with a 10.33 mill cap hit, leaving a back loaded balance due of 34 mill over the last 3 years which would be a 14 mill cap hit for those last 3 years, which they could renegotiate if they wanted too, but the fact is he would be locked up for 3 years at a 10.3 mill cap hit, AB gets his highest paid receiver status and the steelers get a cap friendly deal......

Except for the fact Colbert already said they aren't extending AB with 2 years remaining on his deal.

What they say and do are two different things, if they do resign him this year I can hear colbert saying we decided to resign AB now because waiting another year to do the deal would cost us a lot more money, we wanted to get this behind us now.......

DeCastro extension is taking longer than I thought, the media is saying the deal Osemele got from the Raiders is the sticking point.

AB isn't getting a new deal, they may advance him money like they did last year but that's it.

Doubtful. I mean, perhaps, but I wouldn't draw that conclusion based on these restructures. They're sitting in the ballpark of $6.5-7 Mil under the cap. When the full roster is accounted for after final cuts (54 really considering Bell's suspension), injury settlements, paying players on injured reserve, and the practice squad pool they'll only have ~$2-3 Mil or so for "emergency" signings and spending during the season without making additional moves to clear cap space.

I think its more likely that they advance him again this season rather than open a can of worms. Each player after AB will be saying, well, you did it for AB.

I wouldn't rule it out entirely, because its a unique case but if they can appease AB with an advance, I think they will go that route.
