Steelers shouldn't need to clear any cap space to extend him.

i agree. i think we just needed some operating cash freed up. we were about out of spending money if a player is available after the cuts or needed for an injury. DD's new contract would help that as well but it hasn't happened yet.

Oh yeah they may actually gain some right depending on how it all shakes out.

Like I said in another thread... Mr. Omar khan is the best in the business. I never worry about the salary cap anymore. I wish we had him in the early 90's

Nothing players like better than a restructure, cash up front is a sense of security and it's advantageous to the bank account, can you imagine your boss telling you I'm going to give you a years salary in advance...

Kind of a big cap hit for 2017 and 2018, but it's probably the best thing they could have done if they wanted to extend Decastro now.
As for Gilbert, I don't know if I ever said it, but he has been a really pleasant surprise for me. I thought he just wasn't the guy they should hitch their wagon to (I thought it was Mike Adams ), but particularly under the tutelage of Munchack, he has really turned it on. I'm glad the front office is much better at player evaluation than I am.
That said. Landry Jones is the second coming of Johnny Unitas. ;)

Problem with those restructures is towards the end of the contract it becomes the players worst enemy.
