I don't like this hire, I really don't. I think JackAttack got a hold of Tomlin and used the Jedi mind trick on him to hire Haley. So I am making a poll on how long this fruit cake lasts. I think he follows past out of house hirings and is gone after this season. I see melt downs with Ben and some of the young money crew. My only hope is Rooney and Tomlin made it clear to Mr hot head, that they won't put up with any of that dysfunctional bull****. I'm also hoping Haleys has grown up and learned from past experiences and how to deal with people.

Wow. The guy probably hasn't even seen the locker room yet and you're already asking how long he is going to be our OC?

I understand your reservation. I really do. But I also think the Rooneys tend to get this stuff right. Apparently, they were satisfied in what they saw and heard from Haley that they decided to dismiss his "attitude" and "paranoia" issues. Give this a chance.

While I truly don't like this hire, I'm just having fun with this because he was about the only guy's name mentioned that I really didn't want, so naturally he got hired  However, once the season starts, I'll be behind him unless he proves my reservations correct. Then it's F.T.H.I. :hehehe:

I do hope he has grown as an OC and a person and learned from the past, because he has the weapons to work with here, we shall see.

Head Coaches that go back to being coordinators often return to being head coaches, regardless of whether they were any good as a HC the first time around.

If the Steelers are successful with Todd Haley as OC, and our offense ranks high statistically, he could easily be offered a HC job after a couple years, or even one year. I think he will be gone in 2-4 years, either by way of firing or leaving via promotion. Or, another possibility, leaving for another OC job because we're not a good fit (not unlike a firing).

Actually the thought crossed my mind that this could just be an experiment year. If Haley does really well, then great, if not, Wilson should be ready for the job that he was in line to get before his tragic accident. Just a thought.

This could be the case. I am interested to see how Fichtner fits in with all of this. I don't think he is ready to take over as OC if he's going to be an Arians clone. But if Fichtner works under haley for a couple of years, he'll be ready.

I'm not so sure about that. Sometimes they hire personal friends or do favor for other friends. Remember Joe Walton? And there were a coupla other lousy selections.

Remember when everyone freaked out because they had no idea who Mike Tomlin was. Say what you want about Tomlin but he's been to two Superbowls, and I think the whole "with cowher's team" is BS.

Tomlin was a bona fida hire based solely on his merits. He was not a buddy of the Rooneys or the son/friend/sibling of a buddy. Not sure about Haley.

Been reading this book "Eli Manning" by Ralph Vacchiano. In it Ernie Accorsi has a lot to say about the relationship between OC's and franchise QB's. He says that a buddy buddy close realationship is absolutely essential in order for that QB to be successful. He cites numerous examples where that wasn't the case and the star QB and top draft choice just flopped.

Rooney's LOOOOOVE Pittsburgh guys. Cowher, Colbert, Russ Grimm.... If this is the sole reason he got picked up though I have my reservation.

I'll add the fact if they didn't even let Tomlin have a say in this I would be worried too, because this smells of a solely Rooney hire.

Haley better make a solid effort to be "buddies" with Ben, if he pulls his little Napoleon act with him then he will have a very short stay in the Burgh. I don't know why anyone thinks it's a good idea to have a strained relationship between the OC and QB.

I don't think a "strained" relationship is healthy either. But an animated disagreement from time to time is fine. Air your differences, get them out in the open, yell at each other (this is football) and move on. I think strained relationships occur when you've got an individual or individuals who like to carry on grudges forever and aren't willing to say what's on their minds and move on. I think a lot of people are judging Haley based on his altercation with Boldin. The fact of the matter is that Boldin was a diva and needed to be put in his place.

There was absolutely no creative tension at all between Ben and BA. I imagine this is how a conversation between the two of them went:

BA: Ben, uh, that pass you forced to Wallace in double coverage was a thing of beauty. I loved how it sailed through the air for nearly 40 yards. But did you see Heath wide open for the first down? It looked like you pump faked it to him before you threw it.

Ben: Yeah, I saw Heath. But you know we designed 5 pass plays of 40 or more yards in the game plan and I had only used 4. I just thought I'd wing it out there to Mike and see what he could do.

BA: Oh, okay. That makes sense. But if you're going to try to force it to someone why not AB? He fights for the ball more than Wallace. By the way, did you see Redman one on one with the LB on that last series when you overthrew AB on the post on that 3rd and 4? Looks like he had a step on the the guy. He was their slowest LB you know.

Ben: Yeah, I saw him but by that time I had my mind made up that I was going to AB. Besides, we like to pick up those huge chunks of yards and not those little bite sized morsels, right Coach?

BA: Uh, yeah I guess you're right, Ben. Just keep firing away. Sooner or later we're gonna hit one! Oh, and throw in a run every now and then would ya, big guy. Mr. Rooney's watching.

Ben: You got it coach. By the way, have you made those dinner reservations at Rico's yet? I'm working up quite an appetite with all of these long passes.

BA: No but I'll get right on that, big guy. By the way, you start hitting a few of these long balls we'll be going to Hawaii together big guy. That is if we don't make it to the Big One! Nice consolation prize huh?

Ben: You know I wouldn't dream of going without you, coach. Well, I've got to get back on the field. Go ahead and get on those reservations. I'll take care of the playcalling on this drive. Mike, AB, GO LONG!!

If Boldin were the only incident then I'd excuse that too, Boldin seems like an A-hole. But I've read he's had problems with coaches too (not HC's, just assistants.) I've always trusted the Rooneys before so hopefully they have gotten it right again.

I think you're wrong to trust the Rooneys. Looking back on the Joe Walton situation again. I remember Walton standing on the sidelines alongside Noll. Walton would pull one of his many boneheaded moves then he would twist his baseball cap on backwards and take on this demented clown look. Noll would stand there with this stoic but frustrated look knowing that he was powerless to correct the situation because of the Walton - Rooney connection. Those were bad times for the Steelers.

Shhh, I'm trying to make myself feel better about this hire. The fact is, you are right, Steelers don't have a good track record when they go out of house for an OC.

Alright Jack, now you're just rubbing it in. You should be ashamed of yourself.

But on a more positive note, predicting Haley as you did several weeks ago was a pretty good call. With that in mind, do you have any feelings or suggestions for this weeks Power Ball drawing? I'm looking for 6 numbers; is anything coming to mind?

7 17 84 88 83 34 These are either the power ball numbers or the numbers of the players on the Steelers who are going to perform one heckuva lot better now that Haley is the OC! 8-)

uhmmm, thanks but 84, 88, and 83 aren't Power Ball numbers. I do think these players will thrive though under Haley and his new schemes this upcoming season!
