Big Dan seemed to get more snaps during his rookie year... than he did last year.

Yes it seemed that way to me too. Not sure of the snap counts. I was really looking forward to what shade tree was going to do in his 2nd year. Especially after the offseason reports on him losing weight and being in better shape. But I really only noticed him in on goal line packages and the like.

Was listening to NFL radio on my drive home and they had a Steeler caller(I swear it was one of you guys) and he was talking about our DT position and they (Pat Kerwin) was saying how the Steelers were high on big Dan. They also mentioned that for a big guy he had very good knee and ankle bend and the Steelers feel he can step in.......I can see us drafting a DT and them splitting time. They also pointed out the Steeler way.....draft em, train em and start em.......

I think they are going to see what McCullers is bringing in camp. He will get a long look again to see if he's progressed. Of course, we all hope he has.

McCullers must be slotted to start at NT otherwise why let McLendon go?

Or are they starting Cam Thomas at NT?

Cam Thomas is a free agent, McCullers won't be the starter IMO I expect a free agent or rookie to start ahead of him.

    I was joking about Thomas.

Mmm it isn't normal for the Steelers to start a rookie on defense.

Big Snack started 11 games his rookie year. I'd expect a 1st round NT stud to start if any rookie.

Even then it would be preferable they learn behind McLendon for one year.

I expect McCullers to start at NT based on experience but we will see. If they draft a NT in the 1st the rookie could take over half way through.

I think if they do draft a guy they will slip him in like they did Dupree. I thought Dupree got on the field fast at least in "steeler time" and I think the times are changing where we draft a guy and he sits on the bench.

Looks like Big Dan was fighting through an injury all year. Cam said something to that effect. Looking back at that 49er game that was a nasty cut block that he was able to come back in a few weeks. For a man of his size that would impact his movement.

I think he moves pretty good for a big guy holding his gap on stretch runs. (Which should be less effective with those cut blocks being outlawed)

He was injured last season. He will be a force I think. He's not going anywhere. Cut in 2016? Nah!!!

Did you guys go back and look at the cut block he took? It's amazing he even played again last year! It looked as bad as the Pouncey friendly fire by DeCastro!

Looks like he would have held his gap and maybe have made the tackle if Shazier misses. I'm not sure what his assignment here is though. Maybe he's supposed to engage the Guard and not let him get to the second level?

Either way he's maintaining the gap where he's supposed to be with it looks like good lateral movement as Jarvis is swallowed up by the double-team (which probably shouldn't have been a double team because Shazier sells that he's going outside before he jumps back inside for the TFL!) That closing speed though!!!

That's an ugly ugly hit. In looking at that play I'm glad Shazier made the play because so many things wrong with the defense on it that it's hard to watch. Allen looking into the backfield abandoning his zone, moats almost running into Timmons because he over played the run. Shazier doesn't make that tackle the RB cuts back it's a 15 yard gain before Mitchell gets to him.

Looks like opportunity and all the other little extras are falling into place for McCullers. He should be able to do what we envision him to do to that pocket.

I doubt he will be a force, he will be sharing snaps with Hargrave.
