Diamond, I'm with you on trading him. Get a late round draft pick and build some assets up for the next draft. Lord knows we don't use free agency a lot so any additional draft picks is a good thing.

I love Boswell! My concern though is we saw just one season (or wasn't it like half a season?) Can he be consistent?

Go with the hot foot in this case but secretly put Suisham on a deserted island where all he does for entertainment is kick coconuts between palm tress.

Was always a Suisham fan but try and trade him for a 6th if possible.

Bos is younger, cheaper and stronger leg.

I hear Minnesota is now placing a high value on kickers.

    NE too haha.

Suisham doesn't have a strong enough leg and Tomlin forcing him to try 50+ yarders has cost the Steelers multiple games.

If the only thing we can get for Suisham is a sack of potatoes then we should do it. Get something; don't let an asset walk away and not get anything for it. I'm sure some teams can use a kicker who can kick from 40 yard and with in. lmfao.

Was strong on Boswell ever since I saw the clip above.

Something I've never seen before which is rare from a kicker. He was so good in the last stretch of games it almost erased the memories of how horrible Scobee was

he has to be healthy enough first. i expect a june 1 cut designation would be in the works and spread it over two years. i thought we might move him during the draft but read somewhere he wasn't cleared yet to practice or play. sort of like adams had been.

Cut Suisham. Job is Boswell's. This is a no-brainer.

We have no leverage with Suisham to use in the form of a trade. Every team in the league knows he'll be available by the end of camp.

Problem is, if teams know we aren't going to keep him, they may as well wait until he's inevitably released.

Unless they have a desperate need like we did with Scobee. In which case, worth keeping him for competition in camp at least.

    Apples and oranges.

Grab a calendar if you get a chance. It's currently mid-May. Last year, we had just lost our second kicker of the preseason on August 29th just twelve days before the opener at New England. We were in panic mode. Pickens were slim to find a tried and true NFL kicker. It was a COMPLETELY different situation. Jacksonville had tons of leverage.

I appreciate you 'disagreeing' with my post but I don't know how to make it any clearer: WE HAVE . . . NO . . . LEVERAGE at this time. Every team in the NFL has a preeeeety good idea we're not carrying two kickers on our final 53-man roster. We can dangle him all we want until the deadline to make a decision but I'm with everybody else of rational mind when I suggest to take a seventh-round pick, a Gatorade bucket, a couple of kicking tees or whatever else you can get for him because a guy who can't hit from 50+ isn't a very hot commodity in this league.

Not defending Dean but I didn't see a timeline in his "trade him" sentiment. It doesn't have to be a trade now scenario, we can hold on to him until late in preseason when the unfortunate thing happens and some kicker goes down with an injury. Knock on wood and hope its not Boswell because he is the future here and not Suisham. If it takes holding on to him after the 53 man cut I would gamble with a 1st/2nd year fringe player going on the PS until some team calls for a trade. TB traded up in the 2nd for a kicker, teams might be putting some priority on a known commodity. Gotta be a 6th or 7th we can get for him.

One caveat though, I wouldn't go much longer past week 1 or 2 with hanging onto Suisham and letting a 1st/2nd year prospect dangle on the PS. If the trade bait tactic doesn't work after 2 weeks I would be OK with cutting Suisham for nothing. At least you gave an effort to get something in return. Just an option...

Any sack of potatoes league wide calling shots knows Swish is the odd man out at this point. I'd have em compete a bit just to see if Swish is healed and competitive. Kick it out but the youngster has the upside if nothing other than kicking it for an automatic start at the 20 consistently. We could try to get something for Swish and past history suggests that there would be a suitor stupid enough to grab the low hanging fruit, but honestly, he's already gone barring early injury at this point.

There is a timeline. We need to make certain decisions by certain dates otherwise it will affect us monetarily. Everybody knows we're going with Bos. He's younger, cheaper, more accurate, and has a stronger leg. Therefore, we have no leverage in negotiations with other teams regarding Suisham. Teams will wait it out (if they even want him). We don't have the luxury of waiting until right before the season starts to pull off a trade with a desperate team (like Jacksonville did with us). That's why I was saying it's 'apples and oranges.'

Maybe we should wait until the first preseason game, and then whenever the offense gets within 50 yards of the goalposts wheel out Suisham to make a kick, to show the rest of the league what they're missing out on.

Kind of like when we put Dwyer in on every possible running play in order to get a trade for him.

Your right. There is a timeline for us internally. But the decision for us should be rather easy don't you think? But I'd still like to hold on to Sus even after we've made our own in house decision on Boswell. What's the harm in waiting and seeing who's kicker gets hurt in camp? We have him under contract and I just don't like seeing assets just walk away and we get nothing.

But in house, your right. Boswell is the easy choice but we need to play the game. At least a little bit.

The money angle is a good point, I don't monitor the financials much and not sure what it would cost the team to hang on to him until week 2 or so of the regular season. They've already stated (I thought) that they are going to let the two kickers battle in TC so they must have already planned on spending the money to keep him until then. Just would love to get that extra pick like everyone else I'm sure.

Anyway there will be another battle at punter. I liked Berry, he had some definite bummers in the playoffs but we'll see how the guy Monday does. From Duke I think.

How much cap space do the Steelers have and how much would cutting Suisham free up?
I know only the top 51 count against the cap right now, and Boswell doesn't count against the cap right now.

Yes they probably know this ,but they don't know they will have a shot at him because of the order of things . A Team may very well give up a 6th. round pick if they need a kicker maybe even a conditional 5 if he has a great year..

In my opinion, there's really only one choice. You gotta go with Boswell. Loved Suisham, and it's really unfortunate how it has played out, but you don't know what Suisham, after missing a year, will come back as. Boswell has got to be your guy.

One thing for sure, if we pick one guy before the end of camp, then we'd sure as hell had better get a camp leg to handle kickoffs in preseason.
