And Tomlin, he was a defensive back coach as well, as you know. Between the two of them...

But at the same time, Shamarko has athletic ability and I'm not in a hurry to blame his lack of progress on coaching.

The expected value of a discrete random variable is the probability weighted average of all possible values.

I believe if you are building a "Team" and not looking for "Single" players, you draft for greatest expected value. In the long run, you will have a consistently good team.

I believe Artie Burns has a higher expected value than the CB's drafted before him. He could still be a bust, but it was in the long run, a solid pick.

I think it was Louis Riddick who also said he wasn't sold on Ramsey.

This pick reminds me of the cowboys pick a couple of years ago. They took Travis Frederick in the 1st when everybody else had a 2nd or 3rd round grade on him. Burns may end up being a good player but they could have waited to get him.

Riddick is crazy then. Ramsey is the real deal. Closes thing I've seen to Deion Sanders.

We will see; if Alexander and another CB goes in the upper 15 picks, then we couldn't have waited.

Hope the Steelers' opponents are all feeling the Burn(s) come fall/winter 2016 (and I'm not talking politics) :clapping:

Ramsey plays like a legend. He really is the real deal. But anything can happen.

So, I am pro-Artie, and will be until we collectively determine him as a bust (naht happenin').

But Ramsey is the best CB in this draft make no mistake about it.

well that statement is alittle nuts. he is good but he is a far cry from deion when at fsu. coming out the only thing about deion was he hated contact. he never got over that but didn't have to. ramsey is lazy at times. you could never say that about deion

Given the track record of Tomlin being involved with the secondary as a Head Coach, I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening anytime soon.

Colbert put himself out there with that pick. And I give him credit for that. He immediately knew where to go after the Bengals made their pick. Some are not pleased but a few of us were already looking at Burns and liked what we saw. It's on Colbert to get it right with the secondary this draft and until we know different, we should be united in our selections.

I am one who voiced my displeasure last night. I wanted Jax and when he was gone I hoped we would take a DL, but Burns was the pick, and they sprinted to turn in the card. After calming down I see a lot of upside to him. Size, speed, and a knack for the ball. He's also quite young (20) so he has a very high ceiling as has been mentioned. The kid has dealt with more than most families should have to and that says a lot. Taking care of 3 other people, so you know he's gonna come in and work! IF the FO can get a DL in the 2nd that can add some pressure Burns, and Golson, if healthy, could have lots of chances to get some INTs as both seem like they can catch the ball. Still not liking Cockrell at all, and he concerns me.

Hey jeh, I`m just messin` with ya here, please understand that, I respect your posts, and you show solid football knowledge...

    With that said...

Are you sure you didn`t graduate from Harvard, and apply for a job in the Clown`s new "Analytics Driven" Front Office??? :roflmao:

You sure have the jargon for it down pat...

And the running joke around Ohio is, when you suck as bad as the Clowns do, you need all the picks you can get, to build a team...

You don`t have one right now...

Keep trading down and accumulating picks, and you`ll have a good one in just a couple more years...

Hell, just tank this year, and you`ll get the #1 pick next year, to get your "franchise QB"...

Or maybe Haslam just doesn`t wanna spend money on high round draft picks, until he pays off his settlements from the "Pilot Flying J", lawsuits...

Anyhow, just funnin` with ya there...

Thanks to the Op, for the link on Burns, and to everyone else who posted, and helped me learn about our newest Steeler...

Sounds like we did a good job of addressing a position of need...

    I`m keepin the faith.

We`ll see how it turns out down the road...

Sounds like the odds are good!:cool:

    GO STEELERS!:yeehaw:

I don't think anybody is saying he's a star, or even a long term solution for us as a starting corner (though he has a chance to be that). But, if you look at last year there's reason to think he can be respectable in the interim. He came in at the end of camp from Buffalo, where he was playing in a different scheme. He learned his responsibilities in our defense quickly, and to my eyes he had more of a positive impact on our pass defense than the mythical superstar Brandon Boykin. In a part time role, he had 44 tackles, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble for us. This year he'll have a full offseason and camp with our coaches. He is what he is - a smart Cover 3 corner who is solid downfield but needs work on his tackling.

I loved Cockrell in the 2014 draft. I definitely think Buffalo gave up on him way too fast. I think Cockrell is a legit starting NFL corner. Last year was his first year in our system and was pretty much thrown into action.

If Golson is what he we hope he is and Burns can develop than I think our CBs won't be a weakness down the road.
