This may have done been discussed and I missed it. If so, sorry.

Looks like if we want him, we have to get him at 25. I have seen several people and reports that healthy he is the best secondary player in this draft. Who would be upset if we take him at 25? Is he worth the risk

I don't think he's the best secondary player in the draft. IMO there's a significant gap between Jalen Ramsey and everyone else. He's very good though (other than his 2014 game vs Texas). The team docs will need to determine the level of risk, but if they think he'll be fine by mid season, then yeah he may be worth pick 25.

Definitely won't be there for us in the 2nd round.

We need a Safety early though. I prefer in round 2, but if the Steelers love the guy, gonna have to take him at #25. I would hold out until round 2 and try to get Cravens or Bell.

without being able to practice, that mid season could turn into late season. i'd look to the 2nd for green or simmons or bell. i wouldn't count out byard either maybe a round later. i like joseph but for a 1st rounder, he's got to be on the field early learning. i also remember troy trying to play injured and he wasn't the same player. joseph isn't troy.

I'd be just fine with Joseph at 25, but I'd prefer Fuller in the first and Bell or Simmons in the second.

Jackson in the first, Bell in the second.

Going to have to take him at 25 if we are going to get him. I am sure Dr. Bradley has looked at him
medically and if he checks out, welcome to the Steel City LOL. Poor man's Earl Thomas,
if he can play at 85% level of Earl Thomas, we have hit a home run.

He already has an injury, and I fear at his size if he can hold up to the punishment. I know Troy wasn't much bigger, but I just get this Bob Sanders vibe where he was always hurt.

A question for you folks, if Karl Joseph and WJIII are both available, which player would you want them to choose?? Think I'd go WJIII

I'd probably go Joseph. If his knee checks out, I really think he is the safest bet to become a good player of the two. I'd be happy with either tho.

I'm pretty sure the knock on WJ3 is that he is stiff hipped and won't be as good in press or man coverage as he would in a zone heavy scheme. He is infinitely better on tape in zone coverage than he is in man. If we want a man coverage guy we should look at Alexander or Apple before Jackson.

He's a good scheme for for us tho since we tend to play a lot of cover 3.

In terms of press coverage, I do agree with you somewhat. Right now he needs to bulk up a bit, but in terms of his hips, I thought they were fine. His issue is his footwork when transitioning to shadow/mirror receivers. In addition, while I would like it for William Jackson III to be drafted, Steelers corners need to do one thing and do it well; play run support. This is an area were; while he can and will improve it down the road, he will have major trouble matching up against the more physical receivers in the NFL (outside of AJ Green, no one else should scare him really).

Another area I concur with you is how Pittsburgh had always valued the safety position. Since the AFL-NFL merger, Pittsburgh has had more success with the safety position than most NFL teams. From Mike Wagner to potential HOF'er Donnie Shell and then Troy Polamalu, to even role players like Chris Hope and Ryan Clark, there are not too many teams that have that type of success. The only reason people state Seattle has the best safety selections are due to Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. Even if we are talking the live ball era (1978-present), no other tandem rocked teams like the Clark-Polamalu combo. One could even go so far to state they are one of the greatest safety tandems of all time. Spending a pick on Karl Joseph would not be too crazy as some people seem to think. The only BIG time miss for Pittsburgh (so far) was Shamarko.

I go for WJIII. I like Joseph a lot, but the injury and the depth at safety make me lean to Jackson.
Agree that Jackson is much better playing zone. However, to be a good Cover 3 guy in the NFL he's going to need to tackle a lot better.

Saw where Oakland HC Del Rio said Joseph may get some playing time next week. I'll be interested to see how he does this year for curiosity sakes.

I hope he does well given Oakland's defensive woes currently. Already over 1,000+ of total defensive yards given up and not even into the first quarter of the season?

... and quite a bit of analysts thought before the season that Pittsburgh's defense would be an issue. Granted... the amount of yards given up is high.. but that point total far surpasses the likes of what Oakland has given up.

Oakland ruined my draft party, I had the Steelers taking him with their #1 pick and
making a trade to select Artie Burns with the second pick.

Oakland has only given up 30 more total yards than Pittsburgh through 2 games, but they are giving up 5 more points per game so far. With Sean Smith being signed by Oakland in the offseason and Mack running wild on that D, I thought they'd be doing well too. But like most, I'll definitely take the lower PPG rather than YPG.
