He went for the money instead of a championship, so his heart may not be in it at the level we thought (I just had a Mike Wallace flashback) so it's best we didn't get him.
The Ravens have become too unstable, so his tenure there could easily go either way. Makes me wish H. Ward would come back so he could steam roll this a-hole in the tradition of Ed Reed.

While the Ravens may have needed the help, why? They're already in salary cap hell with Flacco's ridiculous contract. Now they have just added a 9mil hit to this year. It's like they don't want to win.

And that's perfectly fine with me. All I want to do is sweep them and the Browns and we'll be a third of the way where we need to be. And don't let us play the Patriots while Brady is suspended; then that's another guaranteed win.

I don't know what the Steelers offered $ wise, but I'm sure it was no where near where what he got from Baltimore. No way we're paying someone to come in and be the second highest paid safety.

Jason LaConfora reported that the Steelers never made an offer and were concentrating on landing an OT. True or not, ???

I'm glad, Weddle is over the Hill at Age 32, best years are behind him. It be like another Polmalu the last 1-2 years of his career. Good player but not the same as he once was.
Focus needs to be younger and build a core on defense for years to come.

    hope its not.
we had the second to last worse secondary last year.
so, we resigned one scrub, one decent cb, thinking about resigning the second worst cb in the nfl, made no move to sign our best 2nd cb and havent made a move to sign a quality FA DB.
yet we signed a 5th wr and made an offer to an oft injured backup T......real smooth, so far.

    As for our dB's
    Cockrell,gay,golson,grant,draft pick,and they should've keep boykins.
We will find a diamond in the ruff.
    At safety....
Mitchell, golden, hagen,Dangerfield (had a few good camps with us)
We have to start using what we have. Some of these guys just need an opportunity. They can't be any worst then last season lineup

At least three of the guys we have on our roster, who have positional titles of "CB" and "S" in our secondary, need to hit the bricks.

I know many of you guys don't want to admit this, but the team has made a commitment to fix the secondary in the draft. I truly believe that. We really like this draft on the defensive side of the ball, and we are going to use that area to fix this. If we sign an OT, I think we are all set on that side of the ball with maybe one WR spot open as a potential after camp opening. We will look heavily at depth for OLB and DE positions as well as looking at the secondary in the draft.

They stopped monitoring it over the weekend, knew his asking price was too high. Would have been retarded to pay him that contract. Even the Raiders didn't pay that much.

I doubt that. Would be completely irresponsible of them if they didn't keep their options open and just wiped their hands of FA's in regards to the secondary. I think they would like to add a FA and address it in the draft.

OR, maybe Steelers had only a fleeting interest the entire time, and Weddles agent leaked the Steelers name to the media on a bluff in order is get an extra couple million from the Ravens?

I hardly ever trust Schefter and those guys anymore, when their "sources" have alterior motives.

I think the Ravens know exactly what they are doing. I too think they overpaid for this person,
but they must have felt the need was to great.I believe Flacco has redone his contract so with
added cap money Ravens are trying to shore up where they can. Didn't the Ravens sweep us last year?

Yeah, I think the interest in Weddle was far more on the fan's side than the Steelers.

Here's hoping Weddle turns out to be Sean Considine mark 2.

And man, they paid too. Too much for a 31 year old guy in my opinion. I know their trying to spread out that signing bonus but still, I think it's too much.

Let's see Weddle play both cornerback positions too. Because the Ravens are horrible on the edges. And that's where we need to hit them; consistently. Tomlin needs to show something this year when we play the Ravens.

So, Weddle was overpaid here and will now be overpaid in Baltimore! Good to be him.

They restructured flacco with a 3 year extension:

Ravens signed QB Joe Flacco to a three-year, $66.4 million extension through 2021.
The deal includes a whopping $40 million signing bonus, bypassing Drew Brees' $37 million signing bonus for the largest in NFL history. The Ravens had to do something about Flacco's gargantuan costs over the next two years, so it was necessary to extend his deal three more seasons in order to alleviate Flacco's $28.55 million and $31.15 million cap hits in 2016 and 2017. Flacco is now under contract through his age-36 season. The move gives GM Ozzie Newsome breathing room for free agency and could pave the way for Baltimore to re-sign G/T Kelechi Osemele to a big deal. Mar 2 -
