Day 2 of FA, and I was hoping this was the day we might hear something. Unless it's a surprise team it's the Raiders or us, and they have more cash to throw at him, plus they have done well in FA. Bruce Irvin has now become a recruiter trying to get EW to sign with Oakland, so it will be interesting. I thought something would happen today, but no news as of yet? Even with the Green signing we could still, sign him for a pretty decent contract if he would play for "decent" that is?

I think he wants a ring though so we have to be at the top of his list. The question is can we afford him.

Starting to not really want Weddle here, especially if he's going to come in with a ~$6million cap hit like some of the other younger safeties are getting in this FA period. I'd rather put that money to use signing Bell or DeCastro and sticking with Golden and the draft for safety help, or some other unknown FA out there.

While signing Weddle would be exciting, I don't think it'd be our best move anymore considering his age, previous recent production, and cap hit.

Reports are the Raiders are going after Weddle. Sorry I didn't post it earlier.

Yea... It's looking more and more like that he's going to be a Raider.

Something to take into consideration, Weddle and his wife are both from California.. He hasn't played on a team east of Utah his entire life. Nobody here should be the least surprised if he decides to go to the Raiders. They will probably offer more money, and have an up-and-coming young team. They are not the Raiders from 5 years ago.

I'm with GB, I'd rather go in another direction at S instead of bringing in Weddle. If D Thompson is not available for one of our picks, I'm gathering momentum on Justin Simmons.

Honestly, I'd rather sign DeCastro and/or find a better CB.

I don't think they'd sign Weddle if it seriously jeopardized their chances of signing DeCastro long-term.

To me the smarter move is getting a young guy who will be here a long time.

I do like this draft for Safeties, I feel their are 4 or 5 of them who could help us in this draft.

I would only take Weddle on a 1 year deal as a pinch hitter, allowing us to still draft a guy to groom for a year.

Yeah, hope not. I'm not sure what our cap space is at the moment. I have LOVED Weddle since he entered the draft years ago. I will be very happy if we get him... but I honestly don't know what he has left in the tank. If he's good then bring his ass here.

My guess is he's using the Steelers to squeeze every last dime he can out of the raiders.

I honestly don't know. Steelers are rather cheapish & nonaggressive so I'd think that they'd offer below the market value with the pitch of winning a SB... You could be right tho.

I'd be very, very surprised if he signed here. I'd be pretty surprised if he even visited.

I don't see it happening. I'd rather them maybe sign a cheaper FA S who is an OK player and might be able to sufficiently handle the duties for a couple years (Golden will still rotate in regardless like last year) and draft someone (this year if their guy is there) to take over after that.

I don't know but clearly Dulac was talking out of his ass again. Weddle nor anyone else has signed since he said that in his chat.

Quiet day 2 for us... I hope this over reaching/spending bites these teams in the ass! They're raising the marketability on average players which out price the role players we usually go after.

And make the numbers asinine to keep our studs in the long run.

I agree. Some of the deals out there are just stupid. It happens every year. It gets dumber every year. Most of those deals go into the toilet, but the damage is done to the rest of the league's pay structure, and hurts the responsible teams just as much as the stupid teams that do the deals.

I don't want Weddle anyway, age and money are the reasons. This is a deep draft for safeties they can find one in the 2nd or 3rd.

I read the article on 24/7 sports and from the Steelers FO Weddle is too expensive right now for the Steelers to sign. I'm a Steeelrs Homer as most of you, but the Raiders have done well so far, so Weddle signing there and making more money may very well happen. Raiders may be a couple years away, but you never know? Obviously we should make a run at it this year ( if healthy) so there is that to dangle in front of Weddle. As far as what he has left to give, he can still play, and his leadership for the secondary is comparable to what Troy brought, and that's why they want this guy. A rookie may be a slight bit quicker, but Weddle is an All Pro
