Help me here, what are you calling "Dead"? I'm not being smart arsed but you threw out numbers without definition. I'm not sure what you are telling me?

My wife brought that up a while back but I'm not sure it was the same conversation.

That is the amount of money that remains on the cap as "dead cap space". It is the remaining original signing bonus money.

When a player is cut, their salary simply comes off the books. But the signing bonus money does not.

Example: if a player signed a 4 year deal, with a 4 million dollar signing bonus, then 1 million of that bonus is assigned to the cap each of the 4 years (even though the money is paid in full up front)

If that player is cut after year 2 of the 4 year deal, then 2 million of the signing bonus remains to be allocated.

If cut before June 1 then 2 million is "dead" in that year. If cut after June 1 then the 2 million is spread over 2 years.
