That's not necessarily true. Cutting him now saves us 1.7 million against the 2016 cap. If the team is convinced that he cannot contribute better than a replacement who can be acquired for less than 1.7 million in 2016, then it would make perfect fiscal sense to cut him and go with the other option.

With a dead money hit of over 4 million. Even if they make him a post June 1st cut they come out in the hole. Allen isn't getting cut.

if you cut him after 1 june you save 4 milion and the dead money is 1,7 this year and the next ,or you like to give him another 6 ml to watch people from the sidelines ?

No, they don't come out in the hole. I had made a mistake on my initial number, but I'm still right directionally. Cut pre June 1 = savings of 350k; cut post June 1 = 2.375 million savings in 2016.

For a pre June 1 cut, his 4.4 million salary is wiped off the books, but there is a 4.05 mil dead money hit. Savings of 350k. For a post June 1 cut, the dead money is split over 2016 and 2017, so the 2016 savings is 2.375 million.

If they believe that he cannot help, it makes fiscal sense to cut him. It's not ideal, but it's better than paying his full salary if he can't contribute.

It's good to see the Ravens lose one of their best players in free agency, Kelechi Osemele is going to the Raiders.

Ok so now we have Golden, Gay and Foster all signed and it looks like Will Johnson is being looked at. Now with FA starting at 4pm today I am just curious what you all feel is our biggest need. Some positions of need as I see it in no order are DT, and SS, all looking for starters. Also for depth LT, CB, FS/SS, OLB, DE, TE and QB.

I really like this S and DT class in the draft, I also think we can find our future #1 CB in this draft. I think we can get TE depth and maybe a #2 QB project in the draft. So with that said I know we aren't a team that makes a splash today so in the next week of FA I want to focus on a "bargin" LT, OLB and DE. So here are some names who I want to keep my eyes on and see what happens:

    Meredith...former Munch player & Massie.....only 27

Raji & Knighton....maybe to teach McCullers and/or a draft pick

Greenway......Real good tackler, long in the tooth but I think a nice fit in a rotation

Smith and Jenkins, both could cost but are #1 types. On the cheaper side.....Powers, Robinson, and maybe Lane.

Who is everyone else keeping and eye on this next week????

it depends on grimble and will johnson if a TE is gone after. they may just decide to roll with what we have. --- slimmer chance here.

swing T could come down to signing stingley back or rolling with adams and hubbard as the backups. --- slimmer chance here.

it depends on chickillo at OLB. --- slimmer chance here.

DE has LT walton and C. lyons as backups that they brought in last year. one a draft pick and one more of a priority UDFA. both have a year under their belts now. not sure of the status of clifton geathers either. --- slimmer chance here.

QB we brought in the young guy that was with dallas last year that threw for all the yards in college. landry i believe will be the #2 this year. --- i think there is a chance here but that has yet to be determined.

S and CB both depends on shamarko and cortez and what they decide to do with these two. --- i'd say good chance of replacing these two, but who knows. it wouldn't suprise me if blake wasn't at least thought about as depth.

these players could whittle that list down some as biggest positions to fill leaving options open.

Yep. Most of the time, it doesn't work out. Denver was the exception, not the rule.

Ok so it sounds like we missed out on Weddle cause we are looking for an LT, fine but now with the Bryant suspension we also need a wr. We have just under 4 mil in cap space and I feel we need a S in FA and the Steelers feel they want a LT. I would like the steelers to sign a couple low level FA but they are going to have to open up some space so re sign DD or extend Timmons.......please!

There isn't much at the FA level at WR but a few names stand out, one in particular. Andre Holmes, he is in the mold of Bryant. Tall, young and fast and showed flashes but not consistency. I feel he could be cheap and it isn't like we are asking him to come in here and be a #1 or 2. This is a low risk high reward type of signing, anyone have any thoughts or opinions on him???

Also if we choose the draft route I watched a kid last night Jaydon Mickens Washinton. He was pretty good and has nice return skills, I only watched the bowl game he played in NFLPA Bowl. He is projected as a late pick/fa sign and I could see him fitting in here, anyone see anything on him as well???

Yep, he's a FA, says he wants to play 1 more year and retire. So far, no takers.

I'd rather them find a guy in the draft, they have a knack for spotting good WR's, they will have him 4 years on the cheap.

Holmes has returned to the Raiders. Which is a good move for them.

As for us, we picked up a 6th round pick from compensatory land; I'd like to look around at that point and pick up a WR. Colbert seems to be able to find them around this area so he's going to have to reach in his ass to find another one for us. We have to proceed from this point like Bryant is never coming back.

I think we drafted Coates to be that explosive downfield threat in place of Bryant, so I'm not sure that we go that route again. This AM I was watching film on LSU's Jalen Mills, and I watched his 2014 game vs. Auburn. Coates had a big game that day, and really does offer a good deal of what Bryant offers, he's just a bit less capable of being the #1 guy. I'd rather see us get a big-bodied possession receiver that can go over the middle and make tough 3rd down catches and outmuscle DBs in the red zone.

My current free agency wish list is to get either a lower cost starting corner or safety (Patrick Robinson, Sterling Moore, safety whose name eludes me at the moment) on a shorter term deal. I don't want a long or expensive commitment to a second tier player, but I want someone who can be a reasonable upgrade for 2016 while a draft pick or two get acclimated.

I also want a guy like Jason Jones for the D line and a second tier tackle who can back up AV and Gilbert. Okung is probably too expensive, but Hairston could be that reasonable cost FA.

That's fine my problem is we keep talking about positions and replacements and our answer is always the draft. We are looking for a #1 CB, a Starting S, a starting DT, now a WR. I am all for the draft and I think this draft is loaded at S and DT but we are in win now mode how many rookies contribute? I know times are changing but when we are looking at more then one position to be improved right way by the draft we are not in win now mode, imo. Do you agree Blast?
