This is the most ridiculous debate I have ever been in :lolol:

So your argument is we aren't in good shape now but will be when we make moves? Ok, got it.

    We're in good shape.

By the way, don't hold your breath that we will ever be that far under the cap as those teams are, good teams dont have cap room like that, especially ones with QB's that make Bens salary. Giants are a little surprising but no one after Eli probably makes any money.

No my argument is based on what it is right now, and that is 8 mil under if you think we are in good shape at 8 mil under with all these holes fine. There is nothing that says for sure we are gonna extend Timmons or DD this offseason freeing up more money for FA.

Yeah it is pretty dumb to be going back and forth on cap space.....especially when for once we are under. :applaud: I hope we are never towards the top of that list, I do like the direction we are going. I just don't want to get my hopes up and they don't do these moves.

I'm not exactly sure which moves they'll make. Some seem pretty obvious, but they'll do what they need to do to get the players they want.
We are just fine when it comes to the cap. Not because we have 8 million, but because we have options to easily get around 25 million or more.

Don't you think you are being just a tad too literal? lol. Do you honestly believe they won't make moves necessary to free up more cap space??? Come on man.

    This.

But sometimes, the moves you make are not the moves you WANT TO MAKE because of money constraints. For example, let's say their is a safety out their that the FO has identified as perfect for Butler's system. But we can't afford his asking price. So, we go and get another safety that isn't quiet the fit as the first safety we wanted; but his asking price is lower. So we go with the safety with the lower asking price. See?

That's where the Cap space (or lack there of) plays a part. I think that's exactly what happened with Mitchell. Because Mitchell hasn't been the guy we hoped he'd be when we signed him. But he was what we could afford.

And the good teams are not always up against the cap. But every year, we are always in the top 5 teams up against the cap.

thats what we all thought but the highlighted section at the top of this thread is saying minn. signed an average starting safety to 4 years 16 mil.. what gays worth would be at corner may be more than we think. thats what i'm getting at. this will also be gays last payday most likely. it will be interesting as these guys sign these contracts before we make offers to ours.

it's not as much what we will have to sign this year as next. thats where the trouble begins. i was under the assumption DD's 5th year option is a signed one and can't be altered this year. they paid heywards that way i thought. i read it will take around 7 mil to sign the draft picks and PS players this year. we will keep about 3 mil. for during the season injuries on hand. thats 10 mil. eaten up already. we will have some dead money eaten up too from heath and allen if cut.

The more cap space they get, the more money AB and his agent Drew Rosenhaus will be expecting Cobert to back down from his statement last year that AB wasnt going to get another pay increase in 2016, but he said AB wasnt going to get any more money last year then flipped on his word when he gave in for 2 million, but that 2 mill was just an advancement on ABs 2016 salary and I dont think AB will be happy making less money this year than he did last year, so expect more drama over ABs salary issue to possibly evolve into a camp holdout.....

Mitchell is everything they thought hed be, his first year was an adjustment period, also was fighting through injury. He played very well last season.

Doesn't matter if the Steelers are sitting 50 million under the cap, they don't sign big money contracts to other teams FA. They are a build through the draft team and add low to mid level FA to fill the rest.

They will never be the Cowboys or Redskins of free agency, regardless of cap space.

And I hope Colbert and company hold there ground. These guys are getting ridiculous. I remember when AB got his current contract and he was saying, " Now my family has security; I'm fine now." Here we are two years later and he has his hand out. He's making good money but it's managements job to make a good TEAM. Not just ridiculously pay certain players.

Mitchell was excellent last year. What are you talking about?
The first season, he was awful, as he played the entire season with a torn groin.

Mitchell was excellent to you? Hmmm. I guess we disagree on that. He's a hitter but his coverage leaves a lot to be desired in my book.

I thought Mitchell did very well last year. He's brings some nasty in the secondary and really does a good job in single high for us. He was excellent for a stretch there earlier in the season, but he was quiet at the end of the season. I don't ever remember him being particularly bad during that quiet stretch withers

I was certainly pleased with his play last year. Theoretically if we upgrade the other safety spot, he should only improve.

what is left to be desired?

PFF had him scored as the 5th highest FS in coverage last year

Overall, Mitchell was 22nd (out of 88 guys) on their Safety charting (FS and SS). For a reference point, Eric Weddle was 40th.

I'd argue that Mitchell was in the conversation with Heyward for DMVP on the team last year.

It makes zero fiscal sense to cut Allen.
