When I read the 3 they cut this was the guy that I had interest in. Long is gonna go to a team with a lot of cap space and needs a pass rusher.........mark it down he will be another Long on the Raiders.

Laurenaitis is a guy I think could be a very nice fit here however we are not gonna pay a lot for him so he is probably out too.

My only concern would be stunting the opportunities of Dupree, but if we could alternate Long with Harrison I think I'd like that. If James doesn't come back, well signing Chris Long would almost be a no-brainer.

We pressure the QB and it won't matter the DBs

The DBs always matter, you aren't going to get to the QB on every passing play.

Why does it always have to come down to......fix the pass rush or fix the DB's? Let's fix both, we have a ton of talent in the front 7 we are like one solid pass rusher away.....as well as one stud cover guy.........we CAN fix both.

I was listening to Movin the Chains tonight and they brought up a very good point. We were ranks 30th vs the pass while having 48 sacks as a team....which by the way was 3rd in the NFL. Hmmm.....some interesting facts there, I didn't even put this together.

Yes, but we had to pressure with 5 or 6 guys pretty often to generate that much pressure. The teams with better pass defenses are able to pressure more consistently rushing 4 than we do.

True but still we are getting pressure which is even more telling about our back end right? I think we need to improve both, I feel Dupree is gonna only improve with the help of JH another year. I also like the addition of Cockrell in the back end. I know the Weddle talk is in a different thread but man getting this guy and drafting a S and CB could be a big step.

Exactly. My point is really directed at folks who may say just fix the secondary because our 48 sacks proves that the primary pass rushers are fine. They're not fine, particularly on the outside. While I have high hopes for Dupree becoming a true top-tier outside rusher, he's all we have other than an aging James Harrison with diminishing skills. JJ is becoming a decent all around football player, but has not demonstrated the ability to beat opposing tackles with his pass rushing more often than once in a blue moon. Edge rusher is still just as much a primary need as DB to shore up the pass defense.

I get ya I am one that thinks we need to fix both like I mentioned above. I was just shocked at our number of sacks and where we ranked there. I feel Dupree, Heyward and Tuitt can get some pressure but yes we need more. I also feel that we need a S that can blitz, I think they mentioned Cash last night as a guy who can do that, not sure they cause they said a few names. Having decent if not good corners will require that and I feel we need one to go with Cockrell and Golsen. I would like to bring Gay back but if we do I want to draft a kid who is pretty close like Apple or Fuller, but I have fallen on Fuller some.

One guy as a edge rusher I liked was Ochi, he was a stud in the Shrine game and my even be there in the 3rd. Your right we need to keep finding these kind of guys to mix with the talent in the back end. If we don't have a good balance of rush and cover then we will always be in this shape.

The Saints are going to make a run on Laurenaitas, so thats most likely going to be his next stop....
